Arrows. I'm so confused ?????
« on: August 25, 2010, 07:37:29 AM »
I have a Bear Whitetail (circa 1979).  It has a 30" draw and approx. 65-70# draw weight.  I found some arrows that weigh 9.8 GPI for a total of 303 grains.  Tipped with Muzzy 125gn broadheads, will this bee a proper setup for elk?

too many variables to say based on info given. here's a pretty good place to learn about arrow selection:

http://www.huntersfriend.com/carbon_arrows/hunting_arrows_selection_guide_chapter_1.htm

there's a lot of detail in there but a good read.

That arrow would be legal to hunt with but not knowing what type of arrow or your setup I couldn't tell you if that would be your best choice

DoubleJ I am not usually one to judge but based on your last few topics I would say that it is a little late in the year to be asking about arrows and bow set ups or if what you have is going to work.  I hope you have not just thrown this stuff together and are planning on going into the woods to shoot elk.  Dont  get me wrong questions are great but two weeks before the opener you should be more prepared.  Sorry if im totally off base but I have seen this way to many times. Please dont go in the woods unprepared for the animals sake.  I hope I am wrong and you can tell me to shut the $%^%$ up.

The bow itself is capable. Take the bow to a shop, have the draw weight checked and the arrow length fitted. As long as you shoot well with it, the setup will work.
