Anybody seen any elk herds running here?  I have been scouting a few areas and nothing very fresh seen.
Looking forward to filling my any bull tag here.

I’ve been scouting out there several times this last month and I haven’t seen anything but old sign.  My guess is that it’s been too hot and the elk are holding up in the high country.

Elk are high because of warmer weather. Also in the thick stuff. They are there

Excellent, thank you for your replies.
I figured as much with the heat.  We are going to have to beat the brush.  Hopefully we can get some cooling and maybe a little rain.
I cant believe how green everything is though up there.  It is like a normal spring, grass and flowers etc... yet its late summer.  Obviously the heavy rain we had earlier made it so, the springs are running good.
Makes for a little quieter stalking also.

If you can't find elk in this unit, you probably aren't going to find any anywhere....

There are alot of Elk there been hunting for 19 years now.  Look for brushy draws/canyons with water.

TY
I too have been hunting here for many years.  Have not seen the numbers like we use to see.
We have always seen deer though, yet have taken more elk then deer since we started hunting this area.
Have not had the oppourtunity to get a shot at one since I switched to archery 3 years ago.
Though they say the 3rd times a charm, glad I have my any bull tag.

I was just there yesterday.  I went up to take a looksy.  There have been a lot of elk there in the last week.  I saw a lot of sign about 3-7 days old.  I am sure there holed up down in the canyons where there are few bike or jeep trails.  There are a lot of those.  I walked a bike trail up the S. Fork Manashtash creek yesterday and saw lots of rubs, scat, and tracks.  I am betting if a guy puts on his pack and goes south of 3100 rd, he would run into lots of elk after about 2-3 miles in.  I saw one guy had his trailer already set up about a mile from the top of Quartz Mt.  He has a nice place to hunt up high there.  The view from Quartz at the Dyck memorial is great.  You can see a long way.  Peaches Ridge looks like an awesome place to hunt those ridges on it.  I am pretty excited.  I spoke to a Sheriff patrolling up there and he said he has been patrolling there about 20 year.  Archery hunter and great guy.  Name was Dan, officer #22.  He gave me a lot of great tips.  Thanks Dan if you come on here!  I will be there the last weekend. I am going to hunt around Manashtash Lake and Lost Lake area.  There are jeep trails into there and then a guy could set up camp and hunt that area.  Looks promising although I didn't go in there.

PM me if you need any other info.

 :)

I wouldn't hunt around Lost Lake.  There's no elk up there. Lots of jeepers and dirt bikes.

I was up again yesterday.  My boys and I hiked into Manashtash Lake.  Saw lots of sign of elk.  Saw a few fresh tracks near a little creek.  Like said above, lots of bikers.  Met one couple from Davenport, WA on their Honda Trail 90's packing in  for the bow season.  Also looked around by Tamarack Springs.  A guy with horses there said that they took a long ride and saw no elk.  Has anyone seen any elk in the Manashtash?  I have been in several areas that should be holding elk the last week and not a single sighting.  Did see 4 turkeys and a mule doe yesterday.  My boy also stepped on a little garter snake also.
