alta special permit muzzle loader
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:40:18 PM »
So here I am doing what I thought I would never do.  I put in for this tag with no points and got drawn.  I didn't even really want it.  Go figure washington state for ya.  Any ways I haven't hunted this area in 15 years.  I only hunted there twice.  I live in the teanaway unit and really don't need to go any where to shoot a nice buck.  Here I am and I am ready to shoot a hog.  I need some info on the area.  What the migration is like and what part of the unit I should be focused on. I hate to ask and don't expect much feed back.  I am just the opposite and would tell any one of you a great place to hunt in the teanaway if you were to ask. So if I can get any info it would be greatly appreciated.

That's a pretty good permit to have. With only a six day season, I'd want to have at least 2 days before the season to find some bucks to go after. I can't give you any specific areas, it's been quite a few years since I've hunted the Alta, but I would stay as low as possible. Just above the highway between Pateros and Twisp. A lot of it is private but there's some state land. Otherwise just hunt the National Forest down low. I wouldn't go much more than about 2 miles from the highway.

Feel free to PM me with the location of any good bucks in the Teanaway that I can shoot on September 25th, since you have to save your tag for your Alta hunt.   ;)
