OK the question. you are Archery or Muzzeloader  Elk hunting you choose, 3 point or better and Cow's are legal. you are still hunting this trail and you see this. Consider everything, Head partway behind tree wont see you draw your bow or bring up the Muzzeloader, decent Vitals exposed, all your buddies have shot elk the past few years and you haven't..Would you take the shot?  Be honest.

First day of the season...no.  Is there a calf behind her? Can't quite see if there are any horns in that view.  It looks bald to me.  I don't see any junk hangin either.   Few days into it...yes

Looks like it could be a young bull to me, it is awful blond and has a pretty thick neck for a cow... Probably a spike, don't shoot.

I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.

Under the rule, don't pass on the first day what you would shoot on the last........  I would wait until the right front leg moved forward and then shoot.  This year anyway I would.  I lost my freezer full of meat last week and really need to refill it.  If you zoom in closely it is definitely a cow and yes it is a little thin.

All depends on your Goal. If your look for Meat.... with one TRIP,  I would take COW!  If your going there for BIG Bull so your going back and forward and back and forward looking for PERFECT Bull.. Maybe end up no luck and season Closed!  :yike: time go by fast!

I would wait to see if there were others behind and by then it would of moved forward and could see the head clearly.  I have found dead wasted spikes before and it sure disgusts me to think that someone would shoot without being sure and the be coward enough to just let the animal go to waste  >:(

My rifle would be shouldered for sure!!  I had one like this last year at 80 yards where I had my rifle up for what seamed like forever!  Finally I lowered my rifle and pulled up my binos  :bash: when this 5x5 bull  :bash: :bash: took one more step and I could finally see its head :o.  I hunt with a smoke pole so no scope, I'm sure if I did have a scope I could have seen the antlers sticking out from the other side of the tree.  Ended up not getting that guy but tagged out last week of the season so it all worked out for me. :chuckle:
