The 308 Win. has been my pet caliber for over 30 yrs now. I've taken all my big game and many varmints with various rifles chambered for that round and never had a disappointment attributed to the cartridge. After many years of loading, tuning, paper punching, and hunting I don't tire of learning more what the 308 is capable of. I agree with the others on this subject on its underrated
status but those who know its potential and it's effectiveness have an accurate opinion. I wouldn't trade my 308 for any of the latest mags because i know what it can do for me and what I can do with it.

When I was 11 I mowed lawns and had a paper route so I could buy my 1st hunting rifle, bought a Savage model 99c .308 with a Redfield 4x scope on it, I loved that gun and killed my 1st deer with it. A few years later I thought I needed bigger and better so I sold it and bought a new Ruger M77 .300 WM, killed 5 or 6 deer and a cow elk with it, that being said, I didn't make a shot with the .300 that the .308 wouldn't have made just as well.

Love my .308. I use a T/C encore, pistol, in .308. 150grain (federal load) with Barnes bullets. My favorite caliber and weapon of all time. Never had any issues putting animals down.

Agree with most....my favorite deer rifle is an early mint 1960's vintage Sako Forester Mannlicher L579 in .308. Light, deadly and beautiful.

I have killed almost 50 deer with a .308, hunting 3 states for deer for many years. I love that caliber. Wish I had never sold most of em. At one time I owned 9 rifles in .308.

Wife shoots a 7mm-08, we like it. So I am sure we would like a .308.

Yep, carried it for bear. Put the scope on one black section of irrigation pipe but let it walk.

ok so the only reason for a 308 over a 06 is because of action length
