Finally found some elk!
« on: September 11, 2010, 09:51:02 PM »
I have been hunting like crazy the last 4 days and I havent saw a thing until tonight. My dad and I walked down this grown up road about a half hour before dark  and found some fresh sign and a little further down the road started hearing brush break off to the right up ahead of us in the timber. I started sneaking closer and a small cow hopped out about 80 yards in front of me and gave me the stare down for about 5 minutes. I held perfectly still and it eventually walked into the bushes and went back to feeding so I started sneaking up that direction and I got about 10 yards closer and out steps a nice 4 point and he gives me the stare down too. After about 10 minutes he goes back to feeding and walks into the timber so I start sneaking up that direction and I get about 20 yards away from where the bull walked into the timber and a cow lets out a bark off to right!  :bash: I walk another few steps and there is the bull staring at me broadside about 30 yards away so I draw back and then realize that he is standing directly behind a tree so that his vitals are the only thing that is covered up.  :bash: I make a couple sidesteps and just about get to where his vitals are in the open again and he runs off. He runs about 20 yards parallel to the road and stops again so I sneak up there and get to where I have a shot and I draw back and he starts running again and he runs way out into the timber along with the rest of the herd and that's the last I see of him. Kinda sucks that I was that close to getting a shot on bull and got nothing but oh well, it was still a lot of fun. I never even saw and elk much less got to draw back on one last year during early archery so I feel like I'm ahead of the game.  :IBCOOL:
8 more days left!!!!!!!!

Its actually kinda noisy at times. My foot is actually made of really stiff material and if your walking around in socks (like I did last night) its kinda noisy if your walking on some loose gravel but is still quieter than walking down a road wearing shoes. I tried wearing 2 socks on that foot today and it seemed to be just right.
If my shoe gets too wet though, the foot WILL actually start to squeak.  :bash: It gets kind of annoying!
