Been hammering it out since the opener. Buddy tagged a lil 3 point on opening day. We went back in to our spike camp on wed and got soaked!! Try drying off in front of a lil fire and than sliding into a two man tent. Added character to the season. We pulled out thursday to wait for better weather and hope the bulls would cooperate. Hit some other areas that were normally money for elk and found them fairly void of any action. Decided to go back up with my cousins this afternoon and we didn't even make it to camp before we had this boy screaming. Brought him right inside of 30 yards when the wind decides to switch not 5 feet from him entering my lane. Spent the next 45 min trying to sweet talk him into believing that his nose was mistaken. Sucker fell for it. He made the big circle around and above us. Bugling his head off and raking trees left and right. Watched him shred one at 80 yards. He started to slide down and the wind hit the back of my neck twice in the next couple min. Must of not quite got to him. He side hilled down to a broadside 60 yard shot that left him wondering why he didn't trust his nose. Perfect double lung pass through and we found him less than 100 yards away. We got him boned out and loaded in the packs and made our cross country run to the truck. Made it out just after 10. Hit the local store for ice and a guy gave me a fat tire to celebrate with. Not my favorite, but a sore man can't complain.
Heard a handful other bugles on the way out and while we were boning him out. Better get out there boys.
