Rimrock Snow
«
on:

Anyone know when the snow starts to fly at Rimrock lake? Or better yet, is there allot of snow during the Modern Elk season? it is usually pretty snow'd in by late Archery Elk season. I got my cow early season this year but my buddy has a modern tag. Most years the snow is pretty deep by December. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

now that the season is earlier it seems to snow a measurable amount towards the tailend of modern season.

When i had the muzzleloader permit a couple years ago i hunted Oct 1st-8th. I had snow, rain, cold, warm, hail and everything else. I was hunting 3-4 miles in and it would snow then warm up during the day then freeze at night. Made for some real crunchy snow. Pain in the ass and the elk could hear you a mile away. My the 8th all the snow was gone.
you could always have a front move through and get lucky with some snow.

You should count on snow this year. With the weather that it has been and with the forcast from NOAA, I would count on it. Like the previous, when and when a front comes through it will snow, always be prepared to deal with all weather conditions. Good luck to you guys.

mostly just BE PREPARED up in those areas you can go to bed with a few inches and wake up to 2 feet not a good situation if you are miles back and the roads have not been used
monitor any weather info you can and just be smart about it

Thanks! I was just using December as a reference point as I have been out there for late archery season. Typically there is a few feet of snow at lake level by then, but I have never been there in late October early November. Sounds like it could do a little bit of everything, but as long as there is no deep stuff gettin up on pine ridge then I am ok with that!

How did those tags taste? Do you make soup out of them or grind them up with hamburger?

Last year the opening weekend was very nice with mid 40-50's temps. Nice weather! But no Animals
The second weekend we had better luck as it began to snow on Thursday night up where we were at. And it pretty much snowed the whole second weekend. We did start to see some animals, but were not able to put one down.
