First day out
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:01:20 PM »
alright guys you all know that i have been stuck in the house healing up the shoulder. Well i finally got word that i can relax a little bit more and have some fun. the word some comes into play to.

Any ways this wednesday i get to go home and on this thursday, friday and saturday, i am going to go out all day and look for sheds. My dad even took saturday duty off and my father, brother and i are all going out to go shed hunting. Way cool in my book. talk about a cool easter weekend family time together. So i am hoping that ill be comming back with at least one bone in my hand. But we shall see. I heard from my friend that some of the deer in my hunting area still have horns. So there will be some pictures to return with atleast if not pictures of my sheds.

Are you going to Eastern WA? If so, south facing slopes and the upper 2/3 of the ridge.  :)

Alright so im Back. YAY.......... :chuckle:

OK here is the verdict.

didnt see any sheds. Had my dad, brother and me all looking for two days straight. Boy did we ever push some ground. I thought we were pushing draws they way we were walking thru draws and small thicket areas looking for sheds. BUT NONE FOUND.

saw about 150 head of deer every day we were out. funny thng is my dad didnt come up untill sat. and he wanted to get outi in the woods real early so we could see where the deer where coming from and from what we saw the deer were out in the fields all day eatting. saw some reall scraggly looking deer, but saw some real big bodied deer also. Possable bucks maybe. Didnt see any deer with horns but heard from a couple of my farmer friends that in the last week he had seen one or two with horns still. so that told us they were dropping freshies.

Saw some elk also. real good group of about 30-40 elk. a few small bulls. two spikes from what we could see. they looked healthy. No scragly lookers there.

also Bofire, catboost, and Rick would all be proud of me. We didnt bring any guns with us because we had a mission to find sheds and look at the deer. But we got into one of our usual areas and we found a coyote chasing some turkeys and my dad had heard a previous comment i had made about predator calling. so my dad told me lets hear your stuff hot shot. lerts see if you can get that coyote to stop. so i busted out my acrylic call that i got from rick and started with a couple barks and howl and then immediatly started into a yelp and deeper squeel. Holy crap i turned that coyote an had him running down the other side of the draw for about 100 yards untillo he saw us. My dad proding me to continue another coyote came over the ridge about 20 yards from us popped his head up, saw us, freaked out and ran off. then another barking and howling back at me. Boy was he a big dog. he came about a hundred and fifty yards from us and just kept walking in circles trying to figure out wether or not he wanted to come up at us humans. Man what a sight. i wish we had our rifles. But thats not all we then called one more coyotes and they all stayed into the bowl we were walking around and just stayed stairing at me as i called. two of them barking and howling back at me. 4 total dogs. But then we went to another draw about a mile to two miles down the road and my dad said i needed to prove that it wasnt a coincidence that the call worked. so i tried again. BOOM. 2 coyotes come busting over a very far hill about a quarter of a mile away and run straight down a very steep hil and run into the thickets at the bottom and started working there way up and then they spotted us and ran......what a sight.

Heres a call out to those guys who taught me how to call and to rick for his awesome call.

Hey longtat looks like you might want to buy my call because it isnt broken.

Ill post up some pictures of the turkeys we saw over the weekend to. sorry guys, NO i wont be able to get permission to hunt any of these areas. I tried and the woman who owns the surrounding area loves the  turkeys. so she said NO HUNTING ALLOWED. But cool pictures.

I envy you buddy, I wish I could do things with my dad but every time I ask him he is too busy or something. I asked him if he wanted to go on a moose hunt with me this fall and he said he would but not to hunt, he said he would go with to visit his brother while I hunt.

It is good to hear you, your father and your brother are close and go have fun together even though you didn't find any sheds. It sounds like you had a real good time.

Let's see some photos !!

Hey Jay,

tell that lady we love turkeys too...and we (you and I) would be happy to get rid of those mean old coyotes that kill thousands and thousands of turkeys every year...yep, like each coyote kills like 1,000 turkeys per year so we could kill those mean old coyotes to save the turkeys for her!!!

let me know what she says.

PS- Im glad sold ya one that still works... he only sells me broken ones...lol

but they still look damn fine!

well cat...let me tell ya...  if ya wanna find the lil ones.. you know, the ones that have been legal to shoot for a week or two... I can lead ya to them...

now, those great big old buggers with huge horns and massive necks, I dont look for those because they taste bad and the meats tough...lol   if I accidentally run into a B&C monster I make sure to pass him up for something the taxidermist has to special make forms for...  its not that bad, they buy the smallest form on the market and then just start sanding...lol

or havent you seen my 120 lb live weight Florida 4x4 deer??  thats as big as I like em...lol

If you see me kill anything else, I missed and was aiming for the spike behind him....lol :chuckle:

look in my hunting prior to wa album....theres a pic called ga does....  i killed both...  the doe im holding is maybe 80lbs live and the other i head-shot...  it might have been less than 40 live weight...lol

dont ever get into a lil deer fight with a cold hearted *censored* that has lived in ga and florida for years..lol

but, 56lbs is a respectable attempt for wa...   nice job sir!
