I like Conquest glass, but the compact and lightweight packaging of a Leupold. From what I've heard that means you should buy the Sightron Big Sky, but I haven't been able to look through one before.

You can pay triple the money for high end Euro optics over Leupold for only 10% better quality......but I use Swaro binos!!! I have Leupold scopes as well, but am leaning toward a Euro scope very soon...........I guess I am on the fence....which is dictated by my checkbook right now...

a german hunting magazine (wild und hunde) did an article with some testing a little while back on light transmission and low light ability both with the naked eye and some fancy testing equipment.

It must have been a year ago or so but this is what i remember. on % of light transmission, leopould scored in the mid 70's just below meopta while schmidt and bender, zeiss and Sworo maintained in the high 90's. I'll see if i can find someone who still has the article if anyone is interested.

I am very interested if you can track down a copy of the article.

Well, I just have to through my  :twocents:.  I am a Leupold guy.  I've had most of the others that are within the same price range, and I've always gone back to Loopy glass.  I've had two Zeiss Conquests...I no longer have them.  I thought they were a great glass, but didn't see any drastic improvement on Leupold.  Maybe it's just because I've had unbelievable customer service from Leupold, or maybe I am just a creature of habit.  Heck, I had grown up listening to what a pos the M-16/AR-15 is, and it wasn't until a couple years ago that I changed my view on that subject.

That being said, I'm saving my mad money for a Nightforce, Swaro, or a Schmitt Bender, or something like that.  I'm thinking seriously about buying a used Kahles right at the moment just because that's what I can afford.

I've just had good luck with Leupold's and I like that they are made in the USA.  (At least all the models that I have were built here).

all ya'll that are complaining about your leupold or nikon or swaro binos and other optics going bad inside a 1-2 year time frame must be harder'n hell on your equipment... thats pretty sad.. i hate my cheapy bushnell binos but ive dropped em and roled em around and they havent broke... "still hate them".. idk if you guys are dropping them off cliffs or what but optics made by any componies mentioned in this thread will last if treated fairly..  :twocents:

im a leupold gay as well... have an old vx II on my rife from like the 90s that is still waterproof and works perfect. im not gonna say leupolod is better than swaro or nightforce or any of those casue 1 i dont know, and 2, i doubt they are. but i dont think they would be worth $600-$800 more. how damn good do your eyes need to be to see the different? i mean.. optics can anly be SO clear.

oh one more thing. i honestly dont know if those german and european optics are made in eurpoe or USA.. but i know Leupold is made right down the road by some hard workin armerican men and woman.. and i like that.

I have a buddy that has a Zeiss and wants some work done on it. He has to ship it back to NEW YORK, paying for shipping both ways, and his scope will be gone 3-4 weeks (I spoke with the Zeiss rep on the phone personally about this issue). Let's say that the scope is at most 10% clearer. So, in reality, it will help a little during the 20 minutes a day (10 minutes at daylight, same at dark) and thus justifies more money and hassle to have repairs/maintenance performed on throughout the life of the scope?!?!?!?! Not for me personally. I can drive to the front door of Leupold and hand them my scope, and get it back in a few days. I personally put a lot of value on that. Just ordered a VXIII 6.5-20 X 50 Leupold. Can't wait to get it and start shooting! I DO like the pissing match that is taking place on here tho. Good late night humor to come across!!! LOL :IBCOOL:

:) If you spent triple on your house you'd see a difference, or your car, or rifle, or?????????duh???
Carl

Well put.  Zeiss optics are super nice but is it worth the additional cost??  Maybe for some but not for me.  I'm Leupold all the way until they do something to change my mind.  Had nothing but positive experiences with them to date.
