My First Elk!
« on: September 24, 2010, 12:35:29 AM »
My first elk, nothing to brag about but he is mine and I will forever remember that day.

I got drawn for the quality elk hunt in the 340 342 gmu's manashtash and umptanum units. Ive been researching and scouting for a while. Ive been in contact with Buckblaster who had this tag last year, and coachCW. A big thanks to the both of them, couldn't have done it with out their help. So Tuesday the 21st i woke up hiked out to my spot. and after watching him cross through a field i finally took him at 200 yards. i knocked him down very clean kill. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

I got lucky on the pack out got alot of help from some friends and a gentleman i met that day. Alot of big thanks to BuckBlaster and CoachCW along with all of the guys in his camp a very good group of men that anyone would be lucky to meet out in the woods. I couldn't have done it with out those two guys advice and help. My dad for going out with me and my grandfather for watching over me,  A big thanks to the HuntWA community a true well of knowledge that i will forever be grateful too and respect.

Thank you all

Now the important stuff. photos!

thanks, Yeah one of those frictionless game sleds made it pretty easy to get him outta there. Then a little trailblazing and chainsaw action helped get a truck pretty far back there.

Good job spencer . I'm glad I was able to help you out . you and your father are good guys and I'm glad to have met both of you. good luck on your degree at wsu.
Thanks alot coach, my dad liked your group all good guys. Hope you sent some of those photos on to dan.

Outstanding bull!  I had heard you were riding around and asking about big bulls.  I hunt those same units year after year!  The tag you drew is probably one of the best tags to be drawn for!  Hopefully you were joking about the trailblazing and cutting a path to get into the woods to get the animal out however.  That is something that archery and muzzle loader hunters have to deal with year after year with our seasons.  Can't take one out too far unless you are able to pack it out before it spoils!  Once again, Congratulations!

no doubt any bull is a throphy , your young enough to draw another great tag in your life . now you have a bench mark next time and theres a ton of guys who pick a bull apart and havn't killed one . there's a ton of memories from a great hunt least of wich should be the size of the horns . you got alot of years ahead of you and meat in the freezer , Congrats Again Coach. btw his trail blazing was la-git by permission through private property. what kills me is the guys that blaze down closed roads while hunting .

That's  a great first Elk. The hunt is not about the size of animal you get. Its the experience of the hunt , People you hunt with, and the great stories you get to tell when you get back home. Like I said before Great Elk. Enjoy it  While we all envy  your trophy  :IBCOOL:
