Wyoming here I come.
« on: September 26, 2010, 06:40:28 PM »
It doesn't get any better than this.  :) Truck is packed.  Plan on rolling out after work Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.  My brother has camp set up, w.  We plan to hike in 3-4 miles night before opener, and hope to wake up in the middle of them.  Was hoping for cooler weather, but will go back for the end of season if necessary.  This hunt has been one I've been wanting to do for several years, away from the crowds and competition. :cmp1:  Sounds like I better take before/after pictures of my truck :chuckle: :P

Had a great time talking to a few bulls, but couldn't get any in sight in the thick timber.  Was much warmer and dryer than normal.  A lot of streams and watering holes were dry.  Seen robins, butterflys, and spring flowers above 10,000'.  Did get to listen to a wolf howling from 9500' bivy camp, and seen a few wolf tracks :yike:.  Might have something to do with why the elk were so scattered :dunno:.  Never seen more than 4 together at a time, one bunch we snuck within 30 yard above timberline @ 10,800'.  Will be heading back next weekend, hope to find one at lower elevation if weather cooperates.
