Got a coyote with the 243
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:43:11 PM »
Well I finaly did it. I went out calling befor church today and called in a yote. It run up to 30yds and I slowly pulled up and the mossberg barked and the 55gr nosler hit it's mark. The yote did three spins before falling down. We I walk to it and picked it up there was a silverdollar size hole right behind the shoulder and no exit. So well see what happends when I get the next one.

I've had kind of a soft spot for the 243 Ackley Improved (don't have one), since hearing about it from Randy Anderson's sidekick, Sean. Maybe that will be my next cartridge.

Good shooting

Ivarhusa your better off with just the 243 win then the improved. I looked long and hard at an improved and don't see a real advantage in it unless you shot comp with heavy bullets. The 243 is already semi improved so you don't gain much. I'm only in the mossberg 400 scope and all, it's one of the most accurate guns I own:)

Congrats on the dog, at least you got yours. I shot one yesterday at about 250 yards with my 243 using a 70gr TNT and it flipped and flopped, jumped and bit, then left. WE never did find it, I hit it too far back in the soft tissue, I'm sure he will have a tough time processing those mice for awhile. I also flat clean missed one at 244 yards earlier yesterday morning  :bash:

Man that sucks. I thought I was going to have to put another round in my yote at first. I've hard a guy say he had to shoot it three times and ever shot was in the vitals which I find hard to believe since the 55gr bt did it's job.

Yea I want to shot more animals before I'm 100% on the light bullet. I know the 40gr223 has found a soft spot with me, so the 55 243 might too.

Sweet. I just made my first kill with a .243 a couple weeks ago. The exit was pretty big with the 55 grn b-tips, not quite baseball sized. Interested to see if they exit on a frontal shot. Can't wait to do it again.

I'm suprised it didn't exit but it was a close shot so the speed might have let it just blow up.
