Hunting the Palouse

Well, what's the story so far this year. Has anybody taken any monster's out. Getting ready for modern opener and can't wait. Want to know how many of you fellow hunter's have had luck so far. Is it still pretty warm this over there?

Well,  I have not heard a lot about any success in the Palouse.  Has not been open for much except archery.  And the info I have seen about archery kills in the Palouse show that not many deer are killed in the area with archery equipment.  Pretty open ground for that. 

I am getting ready myself for the opener.  Been to the range to check the rifle and all is good there.  Been going through the gear and making sure everything is in good repair.  Made some soup and put it in the freezer.  So I think I will be plenty ready when the time comes. 

Good luck to you.  What unit do you hunt?  I hunt Steptoe and Almota mostly.

Good luck to you guys.  There have been some bruisers seen but none that I have heard have been taken.  Hunting the Palouse is a art within itself and a very specialized skill that takes much time to develop.  I miss my days at WSU hunting whitetails in the wheat fields and the breaks.  Many people do not understand the completely different style of hunting that Washington State offers when it comes to the Palouse and I am proud to say that I do.

There are no deer left in the Palouse so I suggest you guys go elsewhere if you want to kill a deer.

My family went 2 for 3 during archery.  A 154" whitey and a 164" muley.   We got really lucky as it has the worst trophy potential of any area in the state and the deer don't have any mass.   I would choose another location.

My brother lives in Pullman and has been scouting for the last couple of months and say's that he has seen some good deer in the area. Has spotted six to seven shooter's in our hunting location. They may not be the biggest deer, but it sounds like there are good chances to fill a tag. I am not sure what unit it is as I am not from the area. I know it isn't to far out of town, somewhere by the river.

There are no deer left in the Palouse so I suggest you guys go elsewhere if you want to kill a deer.

I've been out scouting and have seen nothing larger than a 3pt. I suggest going else where also. leave the palouse to the WSU students, we need to eat!

Its all about private property. I have been fixing fences for the last 2 months for a guy. In return I have permission to hunt his 7500 acres. Even with a place to go it is not going to be the easiest place to hunt. There are deer here(pullman area)but you have to work for them. Just my

heading back over to the palouse for the opener. same spot every year, private ground. pulled a decent 6x6 out of there last year. dad got a nice 4x4 too. i love chasing the whiteys around out there.

been out doing a little scouting seen alot of really nice bucks in my area have had good feed all summer seen the largest rack whitetail i have ever seen his buddys were nothing to sneeze about either.

You must have been up north because we all know there are no good deer on the Palouse.

I'll be there for the opener.  I hunt a couple of farms.  I'm just hoping that everyone else isn't on the same farms.  If so, anyone wanna carpool?  Gas is expensive. 

Last year, I was unable to go and I gave a buddy who gave me the "my Dad really wants to hunt and I really wanna take him" story.  I gave him my scouting info and a location of a nice 5x5 whitetail.  He took all of his buddies, left his Dad at camp to cook.  One of the buddies shot the 5x5.  I was not happy about that.
