My springer puppy's first retreive!
« on: October 06, 2010, 10:32:06 PM »
Took the dog out today. It was about 70 degrees out. I knew there wouldn't be many quail but there were a few. I knocked down one and it ran into the next county. Couldn't get the pup to chase. I was dickin off and then Durson, (my pup) flushed up 3. I got off one shot and knocked down the next one and I saw it hit the ground. Sent the dog in the right direction and he was a bit hesitant at first but then he picked up the bird. Walked it a bit and dropped it. I sent him after it again and he dropped it about 3 feet in front of me. Not perfect, but dam good for a 5 month old pup! I'm very proud. Its amazing to see how good training and better genetics pay off. Only once did he get too far in front of me. He used his sniffer pretty well and had a great pattern in the field. I hope that he keeps progressing like this!

Sweet! Used to be lots of quail in Joe Watt on the West side and Schniebly on the northest. Upper Joe Watt, way up the road to the west then take the spur road at the top going back to the east used to be really good for grouse. I've litterally spent hours up there chasing 4-5 grouse back and forth between to big lines of fir trees with a big open meadow between them.

I just bought another springer this past spring as well! Greatest dogs there are for hunting in my mind. He's about 6 months old and retrieved a bunch of doves and got a rooster out of a creek during my brothers youth hunt. We also breed springers a little, usually one litter per year so if you know anyone looking for one let me know! Good looking dog!

Man that lil pup got to see like 20 pheasant today. Lil *censored* had a hard time coming back 2 or 3 times... But over the course of 2 or 3 hours I expect him to slip up a lil bit. Hes only 6 months old and he is tearing it up. He is the rookie of the year when it comes to hunting dogs.
