In your very humble opinion? Cry more.

Anyone know the answer to my question? How do you know, if you can't see, if you're really "flossing" your fish or if they attack/bite/take your... lets say offering? Is cork and yarn flossing? If not, why would they go after cork and yarn, but not yarn? Or something else? If it is flossing then why is it so widely used and accepted? Actually I see snaggers using cork too, am sure they try to floss when they can. What makes one flossing and one not and how do you really know the difference when they're both hooked in the mouth?

Flossing is no different than using a chunk of lead and a big ass treble hook. Its ALL snagging. Its not even debatable. The fish doesn't voluntarily take the bait or lure.

You (flossers) can try to justify the differences any way you'd like. You're still a farkin' snagger. No different than a guy poaching deer.

Tell you what, I'll switch down from my good quality gear to the same stuff that most people use and then I'll just think it's a bite when I have a fish flossed....Seriously, go piss up a rope.

Will not keep many fish in the Lower 48, just me and the family's thoughts this; with all the warnings and stuff we release. Our Alaskan style is legal catch pack as many in freezer, smoked or canned for winter. By catch it goes as follows: hook and line (I'll floss for reds any day of the week as long as it's in the mouth area it's legal), dip net, subsidence gill net(when it's legal), spear fishing etc.

You don't want to be called a poacher, then quit snagging fish. :'(

Good quality gear? Let me guess,an Eagle Claw with an upside down spinning reel, some Danielson line and a 8' leader. Thats standard salmon snagger gear. :chuckle: :fishin:

My "beater" rod is a loomis GL2 with a Shimano calcutta reel...Prove my fish are snagged when they are hooked about 9/10 times 4-6" down their gullet with the last 1/10 just inside the corner of the mouth, people don't realize that the majority of the time when they catch salmon in fresh water that are hooked in the mouth...They flossed them! I just happened to figure it out and pay close attention to how it happened so that I can re-create the event.

In my opinion, salmon flossing happens very frequently by complete accident, corky and yarn hookups are flossed typically but with the bigger corkies (considering current) you will see a lot of guys hooking tails and dorsals from the corky floating up too high. Honestly I have done pretty good with a float setup and it was straight flossing the fish, they weren't biting. FWIW I have flossed a lot of kings using bait... Steelhead will actively bite on jigs, spoons, spinners or bait.

The reason so many feel corky and yarn is a good fishing method? They don't realize that it's mostly flossing...Some do, how many times have you heard people advocating yarn because it caught in the fish's teeth?

How do I tell when they are hooked in the mouth? I can feel their teeth! When you feel their teeth and a little head shake your lure, bait, corky, etc is in their mouth. Use small hooks on your gear and you will be able to slide clear of fins and won't stick on scales and such, for drifting eggs for kings I usually use a #1 or a #2 and no I don't mean 1/0 or 2/0, I'm a firm believer in small hooks.

Thanks for the explanation, really didn't know and wasn't trying to argue.

As for the Tilton it is horrible! Obvious snaggers all day long. Will warn you if cops are around or ask you if they just showed up. I'm glad when the cops are watching, keeps the dishonest people honest.

Didn't figure you were, it seemed to me more like you were trying to educate yourself. I learn something new every time I fish, the trick is how to apply it ;)

Tony 270, I should have read all the posts.  :dunno: Thought you were making a statement that there really was no difference if it was hooked in the mouth, and I was agreeing with that.
I have no problem with any fishing method as long as it's legal gear and the fish is hooked in the mouth.

Flossing opinion.  I used to fly fish chum in the rivers.  For a long time I caught a lot of fish in the mouth.  Eventually I figured out I was just flossing, at least 90% of the time.  I don't do it anymore.  But, I've watched pinks in the river chase a fly over and over and enjoy now watching my kids fish this way.  My  :twocents:
