illegal is illegal.

In your very humble opinion? Cry more.
[/quote]from the regs:
You May Not:
Snag or attempt to snag fish

definition of snagging per the regs:
Attempting to take fish with a hook and line in such a way that the fish does not voluntarily take the hook(s) in its mouth.

go to alaska if that's your thing, it's flat out illegal here and any decent fisherman knows its unethical.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Better quit fishing for salmon in fresh water then because at least 9/10 are flossed, like it or not. Some people are smart enough to realize it, some aren't...
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

If the hook is in the outside of the mouth it's flossed/snagged. If the hook is inside the mouth then it's a fair hooked fish. No matter if you believe it took it or the corkie floated down it's throat.

Contrary to most people's belief salmon and stealhead will eat in a river.

If someone could spend all that time to master the flossing crap then why not spend some time getting baits that the fish will eat. It takes way more effort and attention to detail to get good baits than to feel a fish with a 10' leader running through it's mouth untill the hook tangles in it's gills or hits it in the side of the head.

Honestly I could care less how they do it in other states. it's not legal in Wa! If I fished where it was legal then I would do it also. way cheaper and takes almost zero skill to do.

if you think you are flossing and most of yer fish are hooked INSIDE the mouth then it's cool with me as I don't think it was flossed. The fish probably took it due to a good presentation. it's the guys who keep the ones with the hooks outside the mouth that piss me off.

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

Who said anything about using a ten foot leader? Salmon react differently in different river systems, some will bite and some really won't. Then you get to fish with our wonderful rules that include NO BAIT and NO SCENT on at least one river that I like to fish (stilly). FWIW the Stilly was one river where the damn things would actually bite...

We watch the "flosser/snaggers at the hatchery on the Lewis. 99% of fish kept are snagged in the tail or the belly.
Flossing is "legal snagging" as long as the hook is in the mouth orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr get this

Snagging Attempting to take fish with a hook
and line in such a way that the fish does not
voluntarily take the hook(s) in its mouth. In
freshwater, it is illegal to possess any fish
hooked anywhere other than inside the mouth or
on the head.

Found this while talking with some older guys I fish with up there. I commented on a fish kept that was snagged in the top of the head and bill told me to look up the definition of snagging in this year's book.
I'll be damned, there it was. :dunno:
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I'm with ya FC.  There's nothing wrong with "flossing" at all.  The regs say that a fish must be hooked forward of the gill plate, so a flossed fish is a 100% legal fish.  People are just jealous of us who have mastered the flossing technique.

My dentist says i dont floss enough. He encourages me to practice flossing daily.  :chuckle:

The gill plate forward is true on many rivers but not the Skokomish River. The rule now states "in the mouth". Just a heads up so guys don't get nailed with the ticket. :twocents:

I love it...Ignore the indians snagging and netting, only keep fish hooked inside the mouth and the first two that are legally hooked...No catch and release.

I've only fished the skokomish once and that was more than enough, with a bunch of *censored*bags clomping right in on top of where we were fishing so they could start chucking their strings of 10/0 trebles with a pyramid weight at the bottom...I lost interest fast.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I snagged a sturgeon on the snout this last weekend. Had he been large enough I'd have eaten him.  :fishin:
