CVA Elkhorn Pro

Since the T/C Triumph has been eliminated from my wish list since it's illegal in WA, how about the CVA Elkhorn Pro?  You can use the #11 caps, so unless I'm mistaken, I believe this is a legal muzzy rifle.  http://www.cva.com/rifles-elk.php

I have one and it is a tack driver and legal here in WA with either #11 or Musket caps.  Very nice muzzy.

its a great gun! one of my 2 that i own and my go to gun. you can shoot muskets and 11's with that gun. it shoots very well. easy to use-clean. the bolth is sweet! you dont have to worry about your cap falling off, or cocking the slide before the shot. great gun and pretty fair priced at like 300.00

That's good to hear!  Any recommendations on Sabot brands and grain weights plus 100 gr. or 150 gr. pellets?  Do you guys prefer the Musket or #11 caps?

Musket caps, I'm shooting 100 gr of 777 loose powder and Barnes TMZ Spitfires.  Love em!

I bought mine this year and love it.  I am shooting 100 grains of pyrodex with 300 grain Hornady SST and killed my elk at 167 yards dead in it's tracks.  Like it has been said, very easy to clean.

Bought one from dawhunt last Dec for this years elk. Shot it only a couple times and quite happy with it. Light, accurrite, and the sights aren't half bad. Looking to get the ghost ring next year.

I had one and loved it shot to cows with it.  The only reason I got a new one is I am left eye dominate and if it miss fired i would have to drop the gun all the way down to rack the bolt again.  I missed my chance at a nice bull two years ago because of that.  I then purchased the traditions persuit NW edition and absolutely love it.  But the cva elkhorn is a damn good gun for a righty

Well, I've read enough good comments about the CVA Elkhorn Pro on this thread and several others, so I put in my order for one today online from Cabelas.  I'll be hunting deer in Tennessee next month with it, so I can use the 209 primers with Hornady SST-ML High-Speed Low-Drag 290 grain Sabots.  Should I use Pyrodex pellets (100 grains) with this setup or Triple 7 pellets?  Once I move to WA and have to switch to Muzzy caps, will the caps be hot enough to light off these pellets or will I need to switch to loose powder?  From what I've read, I don't think the musket caps are hot enough to work well with the Triple 7 pellets.  Thanks for all the inputs and advice.

pellets will be fine. you can use either one pyro or t7 with the 209 and musket caps. they are both hot enough to ignite them. if you are worried about it you can shoot loose powder. it burns a little better and gets a little higher velocity as well. i only used the pellets my first year of muzzle season and used musket caps and they worked just fine. my cuzz has been shooting the t7 pellets with musket caps for a few year and never had any problems with them going off.
