chiwawa elk?
« on: October 13, 2010, 05:26:39 AM »
My buddy has a Chiwawa late deer tag and since we will be hunting/scouting in that unit I was wondering if anyone knows of any elk in that unit.  We have not seen any so far but have only been over a couple of times.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not really much for elk up there. A few roamers here and there but most elk spend their time at the golf course at Lake Wenatchee. If you are thinking on elk hunting why your friend is deer hunting it will be very tough unless he wants to hunt by the golf course. Where will he be hunting during his permit time frame?

Even at the golf course there are very few elk.  I've spent a lot of time there and have yet to see one.  There is sign, and a buddy found a shed, but no luck as far as elk on the hoof.  I sure wouldn't want to put my money on killing an elk in that unit...

I'd find a unit that holds some elk.Chiwawa has held a few...very few elk, and if you look at  the size of the area, i'ts a tuff hunt.I hiked HWY 2 to camp 12 last weekend, and the elk are still held up in the natapoc area.
