Savage rifles (newer models)

So far I am the only person to have a bad experience with a savage. I thik it was a model 16 or 116, anyway it was a 22-250 and it would not hold a group. I tried 3 scopes, 20 different rounds including hand rounds reccommended for that gun. I had at least 4-5 people shoot it for me. It was a lemon. Savage would not even consider taking a look at it after I owned it for a year. Finally got rid of it.

I've had a few Savages. Started with Model 11 243, then a model 110 30-06,  and the a Model 110 300 Win Mag. They all shot under 1 MOA, but got traded for other guns. I got back into them about 2 years ago with an LRPV in 22-250. This is the model with a right bolt, left ejection port and the target trigger. This gun shoots teeny tiny little groups in the .2s for 5 shots at 100yds all day long in the right hands. I liked it so much that I bought the same gun in 223. When I got bored with that I swapped the 223 barrel and put a Pac-Nor 300 WSM barrel on there. Now I'm looking for another action to start a project where I'm going to have one barrel in every bore diameter from 22 up to 470.

You have to love the Savage if you like to tinker with your own guns. They make it so easy.

Add a Model 16 in 204 Ruger to that list. I just picked it up today while I was out.

I haven't shot it yet, but I bet it will be a good shooter just like the rest of them.

I have a couple savage rifles and one handgun, they are all nice shooters for the money. The only problem I had with a Savage was the weather warrior model I bought last fall, the composite stock was so cheap (the injection molded type) it made the recoil of the 7mm rem mag loads totally harsh and unnecessary. Savage makes a quality rifle for a cheap price but I'm less than impressed with their composite stocks very very cheap IMHO. I own a savage striker pistol in 22-250 and its a great handgun! The rest of my Savage rifles are used for Varmint/target shooting so they all have laminated beavertail stocks and are extremely accurate and nice looking. I sold the weather warrior and got a Stainless Browning BLR in 7mm rem mag and I'm very pleased with the new purchase.  Just wanted to say I'm not a recoil sensitive guy I'm 6'6" and go around 280lbs and have rifles ranging from 338 to 204 ruger but the kick of the 7mm mag in that rifle was totally unnecessary if it had a walnut stock on it or maybe a composite of higher quality the recoil would have been fine I think.

i knew one guy who had a "bad experience" with savage customer service on an unusual problem he had with his but other than that waStick that is the only one i have heard of.

i had a savage 110 30.06 pre accutrigger that i liked

i just bought a stevens 200 in .308 for me.

i got a bunch of savage's. my favorite of all is a 7mm-08 with the accutrigger. It has the comparability to all calibers.
It shoots at a high fps and has a lot of force behind the bullet. I hunt with it for deer, elk, bear, cougar, and if i got drawn for anything special i would probably go for it.  i am going to get another savage in a 7mm aand a 30-06. i likes the savage but make sure it has accu trigger

I believe you can, but I could easily be wrong. I'm not even sure you can buy an Accutrigger unless it's a take off that somebody is selling.

A much as I like the Accutriger, I'd be happy with any of the quality after market triggers.

You can, but there is extra machining involved. Easier, and probably, plus you will get better results, if you go with the SSS drop in.

I agree that savage makes terrible synthetic stocks. However, when you pay under 700 for a Savage action, with the accutrigger, and all stainless, they have to scrimp somewhere.

I adjusted the factory trigger on my Stevens 200 (in .223) after reading the attached article...

Took about a minute to get it down to the 3.5 lb range with no creep.  Very pleased with the results (now, I've gotta get one in .243!  )... shooting 1 moa or better with the barrel barley broken in.  My father adjusted the triggers on his two Stevens (.223 and .25-06) with the same great results.
