Ryderwood GMU and ELK areas 5061 and 5064
« on: October 18, 2010, 09:31:09 AM »
Being hard at work on a monday morning I was researching the ryderwood unit and noticed some areas marked differently than the rest of the unit.  I called WDFW and the girl on the phone after some talking to didn't really give me a good feeling about being able to hunt inside of these areas.  I thought they were special hunt areas, but can't find any information about them.  Do any of you have any experience in this GMU and could you explain the reason behind the special shading on the go hunt website?  I have had some tips on hunting this area and would like to cross all my t's and dot all my I's before venturing in.

Those Elk Areas are just special areas in which they issue special permits for antlerless animals. You can disregard elk areas when hunting the general season. The entire Ryderwood GMU is open and hunting inside an elk area boundary is no different than hunting outside of it.

5061 is the pumice plain (Mt.St.Helens) 5064 Upper Smith creek (Mt.St.Helens) 5065 Mt. Whittier(Mt.St.Helens).  They are special permit areas but have permits for both bull and cow.  I had the only muzzle bull or any elk tag for 2010 and we scored on a big 5x.  Very tough hunt not for the faint of heart. :twocents:

5061 is Wildwood and you're right, 5064 is Smith Creek, but I'm sure he meant to say 5054 which is Boistfort and is right next to Wildwood, both in the Ryderwood GMU.

your right I meant 5054 sorry about that.  Hey does anyone know any level type ground for a good camping spot in the central to northern end of the ryderwood unit?
