planning a deer hunt with my son
« on: October 19, 2010, 01:29:50 AM »
Hi everybody, I've been away about a year and now I'm back 8)

Hope everybody has busted a cap or two on some big deer  :)

We hunted, the Wintrop area last weekend, ended up at Hartz pass trail #498 out of Mazamba. Didnt see any deer only hiked down the trail less than a mile into the heavy stuff, then we heard several human voices, talking laughing and making just alot of noise. well we knew they trashed the hunting (Hikers)there so we left that area and went down to rattle snake camp grounds we camped there and in the morning we walked trail # 480 we traveled about 3.2 miles and didnt see anything. so we turned around and went back to camp and packed up we headed to parridine lake area and took that main road way out to road # 100 we headed up to the top and saw many hunters but the woods were so thick, you would have to really have scouted the area to know what trail to set up and wait at. we left there and went back to mazamba but turned right in town and headed out that road for a few miles and found a area with several cars parked with several deer hanging from the trees. man somebody got thier deer :o

I have hunted deer while growing up in New Jersey. we always hunted  public land with planted food plots and open meadows which were always close to heavy tree cover we always got our deer  All the areas listed above we never found any hunting conditions like New Jersey.
Here in washington is it common to find trails in heavy cover than sit and wait?
Could anybody advise on where to find open areas like i have described that hold deer. I'm looking for your personal hot spots just looking for the type of terrain to hunt like i talked about. we were thinking about trying the chelan area this coming weekend
i wish everybody good luck this year hunting! :hello: :IBCOOL: :) ;)
