Public lands maps
« on: October 20, 2010, 08:23:43 PM »
I'm heading to 101 Sherman to hunt for 2 days late archery before late archery elk opens here in sw wa. I found an ok map at sportsmens for 101 but was wondering if there were any better maps that would show public/state lands etc that I can carry with me in the field. I can't print the gohunt map off the wdfw website. I'm going in absolutely ice cold an I would rather get skunked than accidentally trespass on private land. I want to make sure I know where I am.
Never hunte WT's before so I am really looking forward to it.

Any help would really be appreciated

It's probably too late now, but check out the GPS mapping products from this company:
http://www.huntinggpsmaps.com/states/washingtondownloads.html

Here's an example of what I can see on my computer monitor, and it can all be loaded to a handheld GPS so I can see exactly where I am with respect to the boundaries.

Where do you live? You can buy the DNR Public Land maps from the Dept. of Printing in Tumwater. Another really good map to have on your hunt would be a Colville National Forest map of whatever Ranger District it is that you're hunting. You don't want the map that covers the entire National Forest. They are practically useless for hunting. Go to a Forest Service office and they'll know what you're talking about. You'll probably have to get it over there, in Republic, Kettle Falls, or wherever there is an office. (I'm not real familiar with that area)

Thanks, I know where the Dept of printing is in tumwater I can make it over there to pick one up. Do you just go in to the front desk and ask them or do you need to call first?

I've never been there but I'm pretty sure you can just show up there and get whatever maps you need. Shouldn't need to call first. I have always just ordered my maps online and got them in the mail.

Have you tried L C Sports maps? They show private land shaded in purple and show public land shaded in red and shows wilderness as well as national forest land. I have bought my L C maps at sportsmen wearhouse They are broken into individual GMU. I have also called them (I think there in maple valley) to order a map for a unit that I could not find in the stores. Good luck.
WDWF needs to get a clue before it's to late!!!
