any one hunt elk in 290?
« on: October 27, 2010, 08:40:41 AM »
So I am curious about the elk in the desert unit.  Thinking of heading there saturday.  Is there many elk that travel threw there?  I'm sure if there are they are far and few in between.  Any one have any input?

I've never seen an elk or a track in 290. Good luck.

I heard of someone killing a nice bull there several years ago. But not many elk in there at all, that I know of. Maybe none.

I see the 2009 Harvest Report shows there were 5 elk hunters in that unit and one 6 point bull was killed.

Theres a few stragglers out there.  I've personally never seen one and usually hunt that GMU for the better first half of the duck season.

I wonder how much error is in the harvest reports from hunters messing up their reporting. i.e. selecting the wrong GMU.

no doubt. You do have a good point.  But I bet the guy that got the bull didn't mess up where he shot it.

I know where a bull was taken. Not in GMU 290, but very close.

I wouldn't go off of what the harvest report says too much. Some people don't like EVERYONE knowing where they killed an animal. :twocents:
