220 pound Blacktail downed by Mrs. Bucklucky
« on: October 28, 2010, 04:56:54 PM »
The wife had all week off to hunt and kills this little guy on the first 20 minutes of her hunt  :chuckle: Anyway , She blasted him about 7:20 in the morning last saturday, called me at 7:30 saying she needed help that she killed a mature buck , but it was a little 2 point. So I get the mother in law over to watch the kiddo's and I rounded up my gear and game cart for a hour long hike up the mountain. There was 7 rigs parked at the gate when I got there, talk about depressing. I had to park on the fricken highway . I have just about had it with washington. ANyway, up the mountain I go with game cart in tow, and my 30d in my pack for pictures. I was pretty amazed at the body on this bad boy. Not our biggest bodied buck but damn big. It is probably the 6th biggest we have killed body wise. He weighed 220 live, 175 gutted and 145 hanging meat. Teeth on him were worn down to the gum line or close to it. Old buck with poor genetics. Its the wifes biggest bodied deer she has killed but probably the 5th largest rack wise . He was a scrapper too, his head and eyes were all beat up and bloody from fighting the night before, probably the same night he busted his horn off. She shot him with a 300 wsm, 180 grain Hornady interbonds. It was quartered away hard , hit all kinds of bone and through the heart. Got the bullet on the off side shoulder. It retains 87% of its weight at 156.3 grains. Perfect muskroom too, Not bad.
