First deer.
« on: October 29, 2010, 09:53:42 AM »

My third deer season (got kind of a late start at hunting) and I got a small 3x2 on the morning I was heading home.  We hunted three days around Jack Creek in the Methow and saw more hunters than deer opening weekend.  I was supposed to head home Monday afternoon but I stayed too late eating pizza and having a pitcher with some friends.  A call to some friends in Winthrop produced not only a place to crash for the night, but also a offer to hunt their land that borders state land.  After watching a 3x2 browse around the neighboring private land for a couple of hours it finally wandered onto the state land and bedded down.  After the 3 previous days of hiking 5-10 miles each day Tuesdays successful hunt almost seemed like cheating.  I was nice to get that first one though!

Nice buck. Nice lefty rifle also.
Congrats  :)

My dad's model 88 Winchester.  He quit hunting before I was old enough; the gun hasn't taken a deer in at least 40 years.  Not a lefty though.

Nice buck! I ran into you guys opening day around noon! I was sitting in the rocks below you and your buddies. That is a perfect first deer! And yes there were more hunters than deer that was for sure!
