First official waterfowl hunt
« on: November 20, 2010, 02:11:35 PM »
I had a buddy call me and ask if I wanted to join him and another friend to Sprague Lake this morning to chase some birds, I had a blast! I thought it was gonna be a bad omen when I realized I had loaned my shotty to a friend, but these guys had an extra for me. I can tell you one thing for sure; I will need to invest in some gear "I froze my arse". Only got 8 ducks between all of us, and am still learning the names of the different ones. We did have some geese do some fly by's but nothing close enough. Seemed a little slow but it was awesome. Might be back out tomorrow.

I would be proud of that strap! Way to go! You might want to pickup a field guide for ducks/geese and carry it in your blind bag, thats what I do.

Thanks guys. I studied the regs hard the night before and when the time came I was still confused. I guess I thought all ducks were either mallard or wood around here and that you coasties had the variety. It was a real eye opener. I think only like 2 or 3 were my kills. We had 2 ducks that came screaming in like kamikazee pilots, I took a shot and missed which was probably good or we would have been wearing them. Headed back out tomorrow, but I sure am starting to hurt now; more of like a joint ache.

I will try to post a decent pic of the boat tomorrow, we have been putting new grass tonight and doing a little modification. Should be sweet.

I ended up not going this morning, I woke up at 3am and really felt like crap. I have been fighting a cold for the last week and thought it was over, but this morning the same symptoms came back. I have a job interview this week and don't want to be sick for that. Besides, I am going to need a job to be able to afford waders, decoys, new gun, calls, on and on and on  :chuckle: My buddies did put the hurt on about 15 ducks (3 hunters).
