Turkey Slayer has done it again (Double)
« on: November 20, 2010, 04:57:20 PM »
What a morning. Took friends out to see what I could get them on opener. Theyboth wanted to use there bows.

Well the birds flew down at 645 and they started milling around in the field be for they started making there was to us. At around 715 the turkeys started coming into range but we wanted to wait for the group of toms.

At 730 we counted around 200 birds with in 80 yards from us. They decided that they wanted to pass on hens and bearded hens even the 8 to 9 inch bearded hen :o.

By 800 the hens started feeding back up the hill but the group of toms still hadn't came into range. By 815 the toms started moving up to us. I told the 2 that they better get ready to shot because the 1 tom started getting nevus and puttin.

I ranged them and they were at 48 yards. My one buddy decided to use a shot gun but the other still wanted to use his bow. First he shot and 2 or 3 seconds the other shot with the gun. 2 bird down and they were even toms.

First group done now back to do it again in 2  weeks

sweet congrats to them, 48 yards is a pretty solid poke, let alone with a bow. thats a great shot on a turkey at that range.

Slayer, Nice going on the late season opener!  You guys tag teamed the toms with the bow/shotgun combo just like we did last year!  Wow!  Also nice color variation in the two birds!

 :archery_smiley:  :hunter: :hunter:

Slayer, are you thinking of patterning your gun before you head back over for a try at that trophy bearded hen?     ;)

Double Down!  Nice work.  What area were you hunting in?  Would really like to get out for late season.

Carpsniper,

Congratulations.....great birds.  Glad to see folks taking fall toms rather than hens.
