Last Day Westside Buck Down
«

I've been a member on this site for a while now, and I finally have something worthy of a first post. It's a small blacktail, but being the last day of the season, I pulled the trigger. I biked into a clearcut and started glassing and walking slowly down the road. I must have glassed the same area a dozen times, but it seems like I can look an area over "thoroughly", move ten feet, and see deer. I kept glassing the same clearcut from different vantage points. I was at the end of the cut and I talked myself into walking down to a stump and glassing one last time. Low and behold, there was a buck! He had appparantly came out of the timber, crossed the lower road, and was headed into the clearcut. It was 10 am. I put him down, happy to notch my tag and provide my kids with some pepperoni. Getting him on that bike was comical and challenging...

very nice!
I tried as much as i could, but you did it better lol!
I always thought about straddling a critter on top of a mountain bike and hauling it out that way.
Good job!

I took one out possibly 20 yrs ago, on a Huffy mtn bike, I think their first attempt at one anyways, was 2 miles up a road. It was all hill too, so my dad and I loaded it onto the bike, cinched it down, and I stood on the left pedal with my right foot, and coasted the whole 2 miles down. Went ok till about the last 500 yds, I started losing the brakes! Now I just bone them out on the spot, much less weight on the bike.

Great job!
I have been hunting off of a mountain bike for years. I always carry parachute cord and walk them out just like you did. A rack on the back of bike helps out alot.

Nice work Cooneyes. I had a similar set up on saturday biking out a two point that I shot. Loading them on the bike sure works good! Here is a pic.

Thanks everyone, it was fun and I'm looking forward to next year already. I will try the rack on the back Hendog..for sure. Nice buck CJ-5! It sure does work well! I have an Ameristep game cart, but the bike thing works just as well...probably even better. I like the fact of how quickly I can cover some miles to get back into a spot, too.

Nice work!! I've always read that blacktails love bike rides but I've never had any takers
I do know that elk love riding in kid trailers!

A rear rack keeps the deers but off the back tire. This was my first year deer hunting off a mountai bike, it works great.
