Thanks for all the kind words again. It was really cool to be the only tag holder and the first guys to hunt this late permit in this unit. Hopefully there will be plenty more success stories from this unit in the future.
Here's a few more pics.

Love that last photo, I think it was the last. Pale winter sky with the low sun. Nothing beats a beautiful cold winter day.

Great write up, thanks for sharing. What were the temps? I see your shooting a Thompson Center, what caliber was it?
You don't need a flatter shooting rifle or a larger caliber. What you need is good field marksmanship. Jeff Cooper.

Friday 11/19 when I got there it was 30 or so with a little flurries here and there. Saturday stayed the same, sunny and warmish. Sunday afternoon the weather started going downhill....fog, snow, etc. Monday was the day we got the buck and it was 15-20 degrees or so with sideways snow and fog and when we broke camp on Tuesday morning  I think the low I saw on the thermometer in my truck on the way out was 6 degrees. It was really really nice to have the wall tent with the stove to keep it nice and warm at night.
The rifle is a T/C Encore in 300 winchester magnum. It punched a nice hole in his spine and put him down in his tracks.

My buck made it to Charlie's today to have a nice euro mount made. At some point I may have a shoulder mount done so the cape is getting tanned as well.

Thanks again for all the kind words.

Is there any lower country to hunt in this unit?

There is but few to no mule deer migrate there, at least not this early in the year. Plenty of whitetails, but no muleys.

A euro will look sweet! Plus you won't have to wait for Charlies 2 year turn around for a shoulder :chuckle: Good idea keeping the cape too if you change your mind down the road.

Another epic 13 year thread resurrection.

12 years and 1 donated cape later,   I decided it was time to get my buck mounted.  This old geezer(the deer) deserved to be forever preserved. Wildlife Obsessions in Duvall did a great job getting him mounted up. Thanks to my buddy for giving me a cape after the original cape vanished in the 2011 tannery debacle. Some of you possibly experienced the same rigamarole. Anyway. Here he is.

I’ll add that it’s nice to see the names of some of the OG hunt wa crew in this thread.
