Anyone hunting the Pennsylvania Deer opener? Pic's added
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:41:16 AM »
This may be a silly question to most, but there was a few of us that make it back there every year. I will not be hunting PA this year  :'(, but next year for sure! I will post any pics I get from my family, who will be out in force in the PA hardwoods!

My father and Brother had a good day in the woods today. They each harvested their doe's, with a few bucks seen, none with the required 4 points on one side. Man! I would have liked to been out with them! WARNING! Blood may be seen in these pics.

My Dad got a really good size doe, my Brother killed a little yearling. Glad they have meat in the freezer! Now they are after their bucks!

Yes, you get a buck tag when you purchase your hunting licence, along with spring & fall turkey and a bear tag. This also lets you hunt small game. Doe tags are done by a drawing, each county has its own number of tags. Some years the doe tags for the county we hunt get as high as 17,000 tags! So if there are any left over doe tags, Non residents get to draw, then any left over after that go threw another drawing called ''bonus tags'' for residents. You can also put in for other county's "bonus tags" after you draw your first choice. Some years folks could 3 or 4 deer in a year.

Which county?

I can still buy them over the counter for Washington County.

We have land in Crawford County. Doe tags have been reduced the last few years. In the 90's it was not hard to get a bonus tag for Crawford.  We have been hunting Mercer county as well, Mercer seems to always have a few tags left.
