Not me... I shot boo boo bear for my first, and my second wasn't much bigger...

It is sort of like a wet cat....you had no idea it was actually that tiny until you threw it in the lake...  Bears just look big to me...

They all think that they are shooting a huge bear, until they walk up to it, and it weighs 120lbs. They must stick to the size they thought it was when they shot. It's all about trophy's to some people.

A 6 foot 300 pound bear most deffently diserves a store with photos!  The first bear I shot was 150 lbs and the second a 130 lbs bear.  One of these days i'll find a 200 lbs bear wondering around in my cross hairs.  I've taken 4 overall and the 150 was the longest bear at about 5'4", which was longer than my 170 bear which was only 5'2".

ML Hunter,

What you just said leaves me to thinking was that a measurment that you got after stretching the raw skin on both bears?  Or was one raw when you took the measurment and the other rugged by a taxidermist and measured by a the taxidermist?  Were they both rugged and measured by the taxidermist?

I am very very VERY picky about my Bear Rugs!  Mainly because I like working on Bears and I want them to look good.  I like my Bear rugs "squared".  There are taxidermists out there that like to stretch a Bear as long as possibe (nose to tail) with out caring how it will look when they stretch out the sides.   Most of the time it makes a bear look long and skinny.

For those that have never had a Bear rug done by a taxidermist most taxidermists charge by the "Linier Foot" when doing a Bear Rug.  That is a measurment from the Tip of the Nose to the Base of the Tail.  That is how a taxidermist makes there money.  Having a nicely "squared" bear rug is a huge peeve of mine.

the first bear I ever shot was 350 lbs. I didn't realize at the time what a trophy it was. I guess at that time I thought they were all 300 lbs. :P Its now been 10 yrs. and I have yet to kill one or find one that size but every year I have 10 people telling me about the 400-500 lb. bears they see and kill. :chuckle:

first bear i killed was 220 ish, this year my buddy shot one that i believe went over three. the things teath were almost gone. scared face. he was on the tail end of his life, his hips were sticking out, i would think in his prime he woulda been close to four. your guesses are as good as mine though.

that last picture was the best i could find for size. the bear was almost up to its groin in the truck. and had already been gutted. look at the scares on his face, left eye as gone aswell. this bear was a fighter for sure, and old. super skinny for his size. i dont think it would have made it through this winter. one side of its face the upper lip was ripped clean off, since healed. lemme know what you guys think.

When you go to throw a 120 pound bear over your shoulder, it weighs 300 pounds. :)

I see what you mean but I don't think many people do that here. There's always a few, but people say they shot 200 lb does or 55 pound coyotes occasionally as well.  :chuckle:  I've never weighed one before. Maybe next year.  :dunno:

Hunt, that actually looks like it might be a 300 pounder.  Nice trophy.

It goes with everything.   I see scores boasted on here on certain racks and its come to a point I let most of them go without trying to always sounding like an a$$ or critic.  I had it in my mind at one time to keep people honest as lots of people look on and are learning from what they see.  That and it diminishes from animals that actually realistically score that or weigh that much.     I think they value scores/weights to much to validate its a trophy.   Some of the best trophies on here don't even have a score.      I try to share score sheets and only really care so much to help people understand what makes a score.   It is a good way to classify an animal but in no way contributes to whether I think its a trophy or not.
