Coyote Killing Main Reason?

Definitely not a critique, but after having a conversation with a family member I was just wondering what you all think is the #1 reason to shoot coyotes.

Just a reason for me to get outside and practice calling and the challenge of deceiving your prey, I LOVE CALLING- Any animal, elk, deer, ducks, or whatever. The challenge of tricking them in their environment. And if you can hit a yote at 350 yds, it makes shooting at a deer pretty easy :chuckle: :chuckle:

Honestly I think many shoot them just to shoot chit.....but it does serve a management purpose which is why they have no season...it helps keep their numbers in check which helps game animals, birds and livestock...they have no real natural controls anymore they are very adaptable and will thrive even in cities so they do need to be controlled and we seem to be the predator for the job in the current environment ;)

Coyotes kill on average 3-5 of my neighbor's cows/calves per year.  They also kill close to half of our annual fawns.  These are the main reasons that I shoot as many as I can, plus it is just plain fun!

Let's see:
1.  To protect the game animals
2.  Love watching em take a dirt nap
3. my wife wants all the fur she can get for crafts

That being said, I should probably have #3 at the top spot because generally when she is happy, I am happy!  :chuckle:

When you grow up in cattle country, you grow up shooting coyotes.  Mainly to protect the livestock, but also to help the game animals you love to hunt.  It's a double edged sword though... too few predators = too many deer, and there goes the alfalfa.
Nothing witty here.... move along.

I love to hunt deer, elk, and bear, but that can only be done from August to December or to January for those lucky enough to draw a tag.  I love to hunt, I love to spend time in the outdoors!!!  :IBCOOL:
I hunt coyotes so that I may continue to hunt the remainder of the year!   :)  That being said, the feeling of predator hunting is just amazing!  There is so much excitement hunting something that is actually hunting you. And keeping the predator population under control is a great way to help the pray population, example deer and elk, not to mention rabbits and other small game animals.

TO protect our livestock and deer fawns. Plus they are fun to shoot. When we first moved to Buckley we would see yotes every day. There's still some around but the ones that are left have decided to stay out of the pasture for the most part.

Used to do it for the hides, not so much anymore with pelt prices down. I don't hunt them with just the sole intent of helping the deer and game birds either. Calling coyotes a very interesting pastime that has a long learning curve to do it successfully with any degree of consistently. Besides it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.  :chuckle:

I started hunting them three years ago because I starting seeing more coyote and bear sign than deer in my areas.  When I did see doe's most didnt have any fawns with them.  Figured I better do my part and see if I could kill a few.  I kill lots of things I wont eat like slugs, sparrows, starlings, rats, moles, spiders, flies, crows.  Coyotes are just another pest IMO.  I can respect that some people have the "dont kill it unless your gonna eat it" philosophy but I just dont think its realistic when it comes to managing varmints, pests and predators.

I used to feel this way...very strongly...then I raised sheep...I never lost any to yotes but they always showed up during lambing and the neighbors calving and I went from against shooting coyotes to completely understanding the reasoning and need.....and now I am one who would shoot one and yeah let it go to waste ...complete reversal of my past beliefs its interesting what time and experience will teach you if you are willing to be open and pay attention.

I kill yotes for 2 reasons.

1. preventing over population of that species, which left un controlled will decimate the ground bird pop..
2. good practice for the eyes and ears. when calling them in you have to keep your senses alert to there presence to know when to call and to not call
A pat on the back is just shy of a kick in the ass..

Helps out other wildlife...
You actually have to kill ALOT of yotes in one area to really affect the population... They multiply and move enough that EVEN if you shot all the Yotes off your spread, next year others will move in... I think you would have to be pretty dedicated to make a big difference... That said i take a shot at them when ever possible!

how come pest control isnt an option to vote on?

they are like 4 legged cockroaches that eat cats and pheasants and fawns. no matter how hard you try you can never get em all.
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
