Buddy's First Retreive.
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:46:47 PM »
Went hunting this morning and Buddy made his first retrieve   :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

This is my first year duck hunting. Low97ram has taken me under his wing and has brought me out with him on a few different occasions. So far every time I go we are in his boat, well this time we hit the blind and I brought Buddy on his first duck hunt. I have worked with him during training with birds, but this was his first hunt. He did very well. Sat with us in the blind, was a little cold but I was very impressed with him.

I shot the first bird just after shooting light. He did not see the bird, so I threw a rock in the direction of the duck and sent him on his retrieve. He swam to the duck but would not fetch it, he looked confused. I called him back and I put him in the boat and we went out there together to get the duck. After i picked up the duck i reassured him that this what he was suppose to do. I rubbed it in his face, and had him fetch it and play with it a little. Then the second bird of the day was dropped about 15 minutes later. I again threw a rock in the direction of the floating bird and he was off. He grabbed the bird and brought it right back to me like he has been doing this forever. He made me so proud and he had a total of 4 retrieves for the day.

He and I are both learning and I am very proud of the out come  :brew:

(Wish the Pic were better  :bash: )

Great shots Pete- the first bird pics are always the best!
