Spitfire vs PowerDogg?

I know, not much comparison right?

Anyone have any experience in using the two? I am hearing the Spitfire is not real loud yet still 50% louder than the PD. I like the fact you can change/add calls to the Spitfire. My Powerdogg does not seem real loud but loud enough. Do not like the remote range on the PD at all or lack of call selection. Thinking about buying a FoxPro but dont want to spend $600. Is the Spitfire any good, how about the FireStorm or Scorpion?

A buddy of mine had a spitfire and we did a side by side test at different ranges vs. my FX3 and he took this spitfire back.

The Kanati Tek CX-1 has 98db of volume and will reach out there a long ways. @ $349 right now you can't find an e-call that will do what it will for the price! Check it out. You can put whatever sounds you want on it in MP3 and WMA.

I,for one, will not spend $600 on a call that I can do with a mouth call or the Spitefire or Powerdog. I'd rather buy another gun instead. Oh, the sound does carry a long ways, longer than what you might think. I've also got The Johnny Stewart Phantom, junk compared to the other 2.

I have the Spitfire, and it does pretty much everything I want it to do.  I'm not trying to call dogs in from 10 miles out, 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile works just fine in my area, and even then I will cut the volume down so I don't get a bunch of echos.  I don't want all the coyotes in an area to be alerted all at the same time.

Great info - thanks man! I agree, I'd rather spend the money on another gun. I have a tough time dole'n out 4,5,6 hun on a caller.

i was set on getting the Fury but after trying to justify to myself spending close to $700 (with battery kit and taxes) i don't know if i can. i hunt yotes mainly on the westside so i'm not going to be calling  long range. I'm impressed with what i've heard about the spitfire. Tell me if i'm making the wrong decision and why?

The only real negatives I am hearing so far about the Spitfire is volume and not waterproof. I heard they are pretty compact in size too. They had a boat load of them at Cabela's when I was picking up my Edge .243 day after X-mas. I think they were going at $179 and I almost bought one.

 :)Go to the Foxpro site, they have sales, there are used units on the Forum, they have refurbished units. You can plug a speaker into the Spitfire if you want more volume.

I bought my Spitfire through Dicks Sporting Goods website, found a coupon code and had it at my PO BOX for $179 total.
Cabelas is way over priced.

I ordered my Spitfire directly from FoxPro last year.  This way, I got the sounds that I wanted quicker.  Also, there was a problem early last year with the remote... I wanted to make sure that I had the most current software.

I've still killed twice as many animals with my original green Foxpro, as I have with either of my newer updated models.   Not to say that the newer models aren't far superior.  I think it's just there are many more of them out there.

I picked up the Echo HD from Flextone, works ok, but the critters dont seem to like it. The Spitfire is definitely on my list

The Spitfire is a great caller , much like the first foxpro i  owned .
 I harvested a bunch of coyotes with my first caller , they didn't even have a remote back then .
 You do not need ear shattering volume , just the opposite , most guys use way to much .
 When you consider a coyote can hear a lip squeak @ 1/4 mile its pretty safe to assume that a e caller  set 30 yards out with the volume set where you can just hear it is going to do the job .
The spitfire has plenty of volume .
As for waterproof that's a easy fix, just put it in a zip lock or a carry bag, it will still get plenty of sound out .
All E callers  will do the job , I would love to tell you that the foxpro is the only caller that will bring in fur , but i like to be honest and that's the way FoxPro wants it , they build a great caller , FoxPro listens to callers and build what the customers in the field want , FoxPro has  a large fieldstaff that conduct R and D work on not only callers but the sounds they work so hard to make available .The field staff is not paid , when you look at the members of FoxPro's field staff (the best in the business) you have to ask yourself why these field staff members would represent a company witout compensation , the reason is Integrity , and
The effort put forth by foxpro to deliver the best product they can . The five year warranty is way above and beyond what any one else offers , and they stand behind it . for me the choice was very easy to make .

Thanks for the great info Jerry. Thats amazing when you think about how acute their hearing is - a lip sqeak at a 1/4mi - dang. I have seen their sharp hearing 1st hand when I was able to call in a dog that seemed to be at least over a mile away, but I tend to forget about that when I'm worried about volume and cranking up my call...  

After reading your post on another recent thread I checked out the FoxPro website and I was impressed. They have some pretty cool features and I really like the FoxBang option. Now I'm thinking about going with the FireStorm.

I got my spitfire used off Ebay for like 150...no way I am spending 4-6 hun for an ecaller....I like it, seems to be a large volume difference between vol 4 and vol 5, but for what its worth, I am happy with it. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I bought a Powerdog last spring.  I am lucky if the remote works half the time and even when it does their is no range.  Really disapointed in it.  So I bought a Firestorn that works very well.  Have only had it out a couple of times with no luck so far but I am not blaming the call for the lack of yotes.

Very nice job!  Nothing wrong with the sounds on that model.  It's smaller than the ads make it look.  Compact, and hell, if it's raining, put a piece of camo plastic over it!

Wow - right on Kain, that was an awesome post with your video review. Really helpful. I am pretty sure there is no way my PowerDogg remote woould work that far away, but I have had it work well from like 80+ yards away and then not at all for 20yds. Maybe I should change the batteries.... But seeing this video I would have no worries about getting the Spitfire, looks like a great little caller. I dont really need more than 24 sounds at a time and scroll thru 100-200 calls would be a pain it seems. But I think I am going to spend the money to get the FireStorm just for the extra little features, I like the FoxBang feature on that. Do you know if the SpitFire works with FoxBang? I didnt see it noted on the FP website. Thanks again for taking the time to make that review!

No Fox Bang on the Spitfire.  I would get the firestorm also if the budget allowed.
