Predator caliber .260

For use on predators, cougar, coyote, bobcat, fox. Don't know a whole lot about the caliber but understand that its flat trajectory and speed could also make this caliber great for long range sport shooting as well. Was wandering if this caliber (Remington .260) is suitable hopefully good for above listed predators. I am willing to stick with my 223 but having trouble with the 5 round AR magazines, And believe my 300RUM would just blow apart a nice bobcat. Any advice would be great. thanks guys, happy hunting.

Why are you using a five round magazine? If your twenty round magazines feed ok then just use them, there is no magazine capacity rule for hunting rifles. Not for predators or game animals. The only restrictions are on shotguns for hunting birds.

Sound like a fine round and the best part you could hunt big game with it as well.

Depending on what you load it with, it is indeed an excellent round, to include  its long range capabilities/trajectory.

Yes i planned on using the 120gr. with the velocity it would be effective with mt lions any coyote but is it to much for a bobcat? I could load it from 85gr.to155gr

He is right- you can use the 30 rd mag. You can search the regs yourself or just give WDFW a call. If you search the regs- the only thing you'll find is a restriction on game birds. There is nothing about hunting rifles or handguns.

I called them, and no, there are not any restrictions on the amount or capacity of a firearm any more. There use to be a 5 round restriction on rifles a few years ago.

Time to dig out that 100 round drum.....

This round to strong for the smaller predators? Anyone? If bullet weight matters what gr?

Its to big for bobs assuming you want to keep them. Coyotes too for that matter. Shot one with my .260 this fall in the chest and it blew the guts out.

Its a good cal, flat shooting and will dump them. But if you trying to save them, look to a smaller cal.

I would tend to agree with you, but if your really set on using a 260rem for the predators and want to save hides, you could always load something like a Barnes triple shock, should not result in much hide damage.

I agree with you Jay. I guess i don't always think that other people might be reloading. If you are shooting a 260 you probably are or should be reloading.
