Pictorial : How I paint my deer noses

 O.K , here I go hope you guys like this little how to pictorial. Not saying it is the right way or best way , just how I have found that painting deer noses work for me , and how I layer the diferent colors in light coats to bring out the final color with the gloss coat. And yes deer noses are that glossy depending on the referance photos you use. So anyone that says deer noses are not glossy, you are dead wrong and I have pictures to prove it. So there

 First I will clean off the nose with a wire brush to knock anything off that may be loose or stuck on the hairs or skin, I then build the nodules of the nose back up with some modge podge and a paint brush , seringe, or bottle aplicator. I did not start any epoxy work on the inner nose at this stage , but you can if you like. I had the modge podge out for an elk so I did all the deer that were on the wall at the time. Sometimes there is repair work that needs to be performed on the nose before you can modge podge.

The next step after the epoxy work was to hase the nose with a light dusting of off white. The pictures look like it is thick but in person you can still see the nose pad color through the white. Dont spray too thick.

THe next step is to spray a light dusting of flesh into the inner nostrils and also the lower lip if you mounted the buck with it showing and the lower nose on up to about the middle of the nose. This is done lightly.

Then I use cream and hase it from the top of the nose to about half way down the flesh, and again I do this in a light coat.

Now I will take my dark brown and start from the top of the nose and spray the upper nostril flaresand work my way down to about the center of the nose in between the vostrils and then I will spray the brown in a downward angle lightly over the cream and flesh. This will give the flesh some depth. At this time I will lightly hase te inner nasal pasage with the brown also, and you have to be very careful to not spray to heavily . Again spray lightly with low pressure.

Now it is time for the black. This I will spray a little heavier on the top of the nose working my way down in between the nostrils spraying lighter the farther I go down as to not black out the other colors I already applied and again, angling the airbrush in a downward angle to mist over the flesh.

Now I will let the paint dry for about an hour and come back with a tooth brush and clean off the over spray that is on the hair . Once that is done I will gloss the nose pad and the inner nose. Let me know if what you guys think.

Bone, I use the Latex paints from Jonas. They are actually Jonas brand that they mixed, and they also have paint schedules in theyre catalog. Thats how I learned how to paint . I like the latex since it dont smell and make ya HI. Its a little harder to work with , you have to strain the paints real good when you use them. I use a nylon , cut a chunck out big enough to fit under the cap then squirt the paint into my jars. They also have a latex thinner that they sell too.
