  Gone huntin---Number 19 is one of those misunderstood sound by many elk hunters today! That's why it's in the mix there! (grin) A Warning Bark is much higher pitched & is determined by the elk giving it as to its frequency in warning others! The Nervous/Popping Grunt is not a warning & in most cases elk just won't leave! As the answer states thay want a satisfying visual or response as they are nervous in what they've partially seen or heard!

  A Warning Bark is given & they are gone!!!

  Gone Huntin, here's a bit more of an explanation, I was short on time on the 1st one! Thanks!

  Number 19 is one of those misunderstood sounds by many elk hunters today! That's why it's in the mix there! (grin) A Warning Bark is much higher pitched & is determined by the elk giving it as to its frequency in warning others, when this is given it's game over! The Nervous/Popping Grunt is not a warning & in most cases elk just won't leave instead they hang around & will continue using this sound! As the answer states they want a satisfying visual or response as they are nervous in what they've partially seen or heard! When the nervous grunt is heard those elk giving it bulls or cows are still very workable/callable as long as you are not winded or seen!-----Notice the video clip where the bull starts with this nervous grunt & then his short scream, this is the same nervous grunt just from a different elk & he is not running off, why? Because it's not a warning, it's a come on over this way sound!

This doesn't mean once an elk gives a nervous grunt and all of a sudden you are busted visually or by scent, and now it can turn into a warning bark & off he or she goes, that's the difference between the 2. In addition to this we use this nervous grunt in our hunts on a regular basis, we've taken near 25 bulls with the use of this one sound, how? By stopping or turning elk around that are leaving or coming by the shooter to the caller. If it was a warning bark these elk would blow out of there but we use the nervous grunt & it anchors them to the spot for the shot! Why, because it asks them something! It's much more effective than a cow mew! Hope this helps!

Herd Bull.

I took the first challenge about a week ago which prompted me to purchase the Sounds of the Elk CD. It is a great CD and I know will improve my calling and knowledge 10 fold. I drive about 30hrs a week so I plan on having this in my rig along with my mouth reed and practicing many hours this summer.

  As I stated above the CD is a great compilation of elk sounds and obviously there has been a lot of sweat and hard work done to capture these sounds in their natural state. The quality is great as well. Well done overall.
  I purchased the Playbook last year and after reading through it a dozen times or so I was eager to hear the sounds. I was hoping to the CD would have some explanation of when,why, what to do to react type stuff along with the audio sounds of the elk. I realize that most, if not all this info is covered in the playbook but IMO it would be nice to have all of the info and audio in one place.
  Again, I am not dissapointed rather I am impressed and would recommend both the CD and the Playbook. Do you guys have any plans in putting the info and the sounds on a CD?

hey 100 how many elk did i call in this year?

Got two wrong...the first one and the one where the bull is calling to other elk. The first time I played it I pegged it as a warning...wrong  on the second listen I could here the difference in tone... Oh well, you taught me well Obi-Wan 

This is good stuff....would be great just to have these every so often on your site. Really helps to take off the edge and check your skills during the off season
