I am normally opposed to any restrictions on anyone unless absolutely needed. This part of the reason this country isn't what is used to be.
Reading this thread did give me an idea, not sure if it's good or not. But tell me what you think.
I see big game winter range as a primary limiting factor to big game numbers in this state. Too many homes whre deer used to winter. There is plenty of summer range.
Suppose there was a shed antler season proposed for any areas within say 2 miles of a feeding station. Then to pick up sheds in those areas there was say a $20 license with all proceeds earmarked to help feed elk or deer. Perhaps if there was a shed antler permit required to pick up sheds anywhere, and that money was earmarked for winter feeding. This would certainly support additional feeding and larger herds. This has been WY's secret to good herds for years.
Just looking for some thoughts?

I'm all for it! but like e-town stated it would be almost imposssible to enforce! I say there will be a permit application for early enterance into not vital wintering grounds. maybe a points system with bonus points for turning in violators
I would support any action 100%

My thinking is this, if everyone thinks seasons and possibly permits are going to be required, why not try to convince key decision makers that this would be more widely accepted if the proceeds go to feeding the herds?

A shed season makes no sense at all to me. It only deals with one user group. If there is a problem in critical wintering areas the wintering area should be closed to all users. Someone hiking and taking pictures has just as much impact as someone hiking and looking for antlers.
I think a fee to hunt sheds is a bad idea also. I spend a couple hundred bucks a year on hunting and fishing licenses and tags for myself alone, not counting the kids. I think that should give me the right to hunt and hike on public land without paying a fee if I want to pick up an antler. The ones that have been getting the free ride are the non-hunting and non-fishing users. just my
