Stuck Scope Bases
«

I bought a used muzzle loader and I cannot break the screws holding the bases down loose. I have been trying penetrating oil. Is there any other ways to to remove these without drilling and tapping them again?

go to a good pharmacy.. get mint oil.. the pure stuff... works great. either that or a small impact type driver should loosen em up.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Try putting the screwdriver in the slot and tapping of the screwdriver with a hammer, three hands or a helper would be good.
If nothing else works then try heat.
The way I apply heat is with a old screwdriver that fits the screw head in place and then heat the screwdriver with a torch close to the tip.

Soak it with some Kroil oil..... Buy a can at Tacoma Screw Products or elsewhere....Soak the threads, let it wait, then try to loosen. Kroil is molecularily (sp?) smaller than other oils and will often penetrate deeper than others....
