Help with identification
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:22:51 PM »
I set up a camera in my back yard the other night and i got several pics of yotes. My question is what do you think is in the first picture? I live a ways from any of my neighbors and i dont have have a cat outside and my neighbors dont either. It looks like a bobcat to me or is it a coyote pup. The ears look like a cat and i dont see a tail. any ideas? Besides we dont have bobcats in this area...... :chuckle:

Looks like you might need to rethink 'we do not have bobcats' idea.  White tipped coyote tails seem more common these days.

Looks like a bob cat to me, the ears and the little black tail and the size all points to a bobcat.

The shape of the first picture does look like a bobcat but the ears dont show any black or white on them.  Every bobcat I have seen has lots of black on the tips and base of their ears.  The black tip on the tail could just just be the black tip of a coyote tail that is really blurred out.  :dunno:

I have been seeing a lots of pictures of white tips on coyote tails lately.

Could be a rabbit for how small it is or a bobcat

Id guess its a coyote pup because I see there is only six minutes between pictures. Although I have to admit it does also look like a bobcat. Hopefully you can get a positive ID tonight.
