4 coons and a water race

Sat night was a BLAST.  Took out Bo, the merle Leopard Cur.  It was a fairly warm night, around 34 degrees and no wind.  Got about a half a mile from the truck and he opened up and treed 2 right off the bat.  Did a nice job of treeing but I couldn't really get any decent photos since they treed in a nasty thorn tree.  I ended up letting those two go.  We went down the creek about a mile and didn't find anymore so we headed back.  The first two were still in the tree and we walked on past them and then about 200 yards down the creek Bo opened up again and headed upstream.  I could see a pair of eyes on the bank on the far side and then a set popped up on our side.  Bo was running hard and opening the whole way so the coon on our side jumped into the creek and started swimming across.  Bo jumped in behind and I got to watch a neat little water race.  The coon on the other side and the one that swam went up a tree about 10 yards away from the creek and Bo came out of the water and started treeing.  I had to walk about a half mile up and cross a bridge and come back down as the creek was a little too high for me to cross.  Bo was treeing hard the whole time I was gone.  I ended up shooting one of those out.  What a blast!

Sounds like allot of fun!!  Glad to hear that your new Cur is working out for you.
There's a reason they call it hunting, not killing.

I've been reading about all of your hunts. Sounds like a blast. Just curious what you do with all the coons you have been getting? Is there any use for them?

Right now I have just been skinning and freezing them.  I'll drop them off at my taxidermist to have them tanned at the end of the season.

Nope that was the pup I got from CA.  This dog is one I got from MT.  He's been doing an excellent job since I got him, escpecially since he's never coon hunted before!  He's treed 10 so far in the past 2 weeks, although some of the trees have been multiple coons, so he's been on 6 trees.

Too much fun, Machias..   I was along on some 'coon hunts along the Palouse river many yrs ago.
It never changes, but it is always different.

there are some coons around, but I worry about the highway right along both sides of the river  :(

I might take you up on that!  I'll be up around Priest lake running this weekend...come on up!
