a question
« on: February 11, 2011, 08:03:14 PM »
Hello all only been here a short time and I have a question I hope someone can answer.  My AR has a 1 in 7 twist and I know that allows me to shoot some of the heavier .223 rounds.  Here is my question.  I have a .223 barrel for my Thompson Center Encore rifle which has a 1 in 12 twist, what grain rounds would work best in that.  I have been using 55 and 60 grain Hornady T.A.P. in it with no problems.  Should I be using something different.  Opinions please.  Thanks.

If what your using is working then stick with it. I don't think anything heavier then a 60gr bullet would stabilize in a 1 in 12.

30-45 grain should work well in a 1 in 12" barrel.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Don't waste your money on Hornady TAP. I have both a Rock River AR and Remington 700 in 223. I buy bulk PMC and it kills whatever I hit. All this hype about brands is bullsnot. I've got 700 rounds of the PMC and it works, period.

Let me clarify I shoot the T.A.P. because I was given a case of 55 grain and a case of 60 grain.  I am running low and was asking to get suggestions on other rounds to use because I will not pay for T.A.P. with my own money.  Dont get me wrong great ammo, but too pricey for me.  I guess I should have put this in the original post, oh well.
