ASPEN ENVIROMENT FORUM Who's Going?
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:23:23 PM »
March 2011 National Geographic issue came today with a flyer for this Forum to be held May 30-June 2, 2011. It states  In 2011, 7 billon people will populate the earth. Resources are finite. Solutions are infinte. Join business leaders, scientists, artists, journalists, policymakers, and concerned citizens as we come together for three days of conservation and inspirationn on how to address today's enviromental challenges.

Registration is now open at  http://aspenenvironment.org/

The flyer also mentioned that attendance is limited to 400, that sucks how in the world are we going to decide who gets to go from this forum and represent our hunting intrests?

Maybe we should have a contest? Guess how many people going really care about the enviroment, and all the good eating critters we like to harvest (thats so PC) kill.

Well brothers and sisters, what do you think?   :bash:

May not be any fun for a person of my persuasion since I'm darn sure the nature conservancy, the wilderness society, Defenders of you know what, and the proponents of the Yellowstone to Yukon will be running that show. What else would you expect in Aspen?

If anyone does go, please keep the rest of us informed, and Good Luck!

Actually I'm glad there are people who are interested in protecting our environment. A healthy environment is good not only for our health and well being but is also necessary in maintaining good numbers of wildlife, which provides us with good hunting.

I'm not sure why so many hunters seem to be anti-environment. ???

It would be wise for hunters to support groups such as The Nature Conservancy as they do a lot in protecting wildlife habitat. The Sierra Club is another good organization that often gets bashed by hunters. Neither of these organizations are anti-hunting.

Seen quite a bit of anti-trapping stuff from The Sierra Club.
Nature Conservancy seems to end up at times buying land open to hunting and trapping and close it to trespass by the public.

Makes it hard for me to support either one.

I agree.  John Muir said, "Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul."

O.k. then let's buy up all the scenery & close it to the public.  Shall we?  Nature conservancy needs to reconsider that type of policy.  Total crap.

Why do so many seem to be anti-environmentalist?  Because there is conservation and then there is the environmentalism fad.

It's because the environment is more than polar bears, wolves, whales, seal pups, trees, salmon, owls, recycling bins, solar panels and windmills.  The solutions to matters concerning the natural world involve the integration of sustainable management into the framework of the civilization.  The themes of these organizations are more of an appeal to change civilization rather than work with it.  The choice to host such a conference at that location is typical and ripe with irony.  I'll sum up how the meeting will go... Aspen will host several hundred people travelling thousands of miles by combustion engine to congratulate each other about their recognization of a need to be concerned.  After all the talk and good feelings they will settle down for a fine and tasty dinner that was trucked in from just as far.  Then by the glow of a compact fluorescent light, read late into the night on a mobile device formed from rare earth components mined in Africa and China in an air conditioned room powered from the energy of a coal fired steam plant.

The effective people in conservation do not meet at high profile conferences.  They teach hunter ed classes.  They take kids fishing.  Teach them how to boat, hike, climb, shoot, hunt, cook, camp, and pass it on.  The winning strategy for the environment is getting kids out there.  Locking up land or covering it with windmills keeps kids out and reduces the perceived value of the resource in the next generation.

I didn't say "anti-environmentalist." I said "anti-environment."  But yeah, I get what you're saying and agree, but still I don't think it's a bad thing to have some folks willing to put their money into protecting wildlife habitat, such as the Nature Conservancy and the Sierra Club do. I'd rather have people support groups like that than the radical "animal rights" groups such as PETA and the HSUS. There's no doubt some of these conservation organizations have saved a lot of wildlife habitat that otherwise would have been paved over and turned into housing subdivisions or strip malls. That can't be a bad thing, and some of these lands they have saved ARE open to hunting and public access. Many times they end up transferring ownership to a public agency such as the USFS.

I hunted on land that is Nature conservancy land  :dunno: they didnt block access...we had to hike in instead of drive but  :dunno: that surely isnt blocking access

I am a tree hugger without forests I'd have no critters to view or hunt.  I like growing things, I like critters, I like seeing the cycle of life, I think there is a place on this planet for all species, I think diversity is extremely important in nature its a key to how great this planet is.  I think global warming is bunk I think climate change is real but its not all man's fault.  I think recycling and pretending to be green then turning a blind eye to the fact that you sent all your lead to a foreign country to be dumped err recycled  is also bunk.  I think educated pro environment hunters and forest managers are needed at these forums so that all sides of the issue can be presented.  I dont think loggers or logging is inherently evil but I do believe this state would rape its forest to make a buck and is look at the damage being done by weed pickers not only do they rape plants the new trend is to also grow pot and poach deer....load those vans full of products worth a bunch of money....they arent here legally so what do they stand to lose...not a hell of a lot a trip to jail and maybe a free trip back to mexico :dunno:

the environmental movement stemmed from conservation but as always happens there was more money in taking it in a "anti" direction negativity sells....look at the news and headlines we rarely see feel good positive pieces....doom and gloom and the sky is falling is what we want so its what we get ;)

I also agree 100% with little Dave! And I am not anti environment. Just anti E Extremist
( the bunch above and let us not forget ELF and ALF)

 Also good points Runamuck.

How about as hunters and true conservationists, many of us have no respect for those who's solution to it is to find any way (usually a lawsuit you and I pay ALL costs of) to either regulate to their liking, or keep it locked away from the rest of us..... And they do LOVE their wolves!

"It would be wise for hunters to support groups such as The Nature Conservancy as they do a lot in protecting wildlife habitat."

No thanks There is  NWTF, RMEF, Mule Deer foundation, ducks unlimited

Hunt it while you can Runamuck. It won't be forever until some supporter or group of supporters that are also DOW, ALF, ELF, HSUS supporters realize  that the critters are in jeopardy and post it to keep us out.

while some keep drinking the kool aid...................

The nature conservancy was do restoration and mediation the land was also being actively logged..not sure why everyone thinks they are with elf and alf .... their name even implies conservation ....without conservation groups we wouldn't have forests....so we can't completely dump them all with the radicals...... a few groups know that many of the pioneers in public lands were hunters and sportsmen....yes sports as hunting for many of them was a trophy taking proposition

Sierra Club is a sick organization...

I wish it was so easy to say that these groups were actually protecting habitat, but best I can tell, 100% have now or are on the road to turning into a fascist groups...  even if their members don't know it.

Sad to say, but when you see these groups rise up, no matter the message, you should always be sceptical...

I'll stop now because always feel like I'm waisting my breath.

Just incourage everyone to not take anything at face value and double check for yourselves.
