looking for camera with micro lens?
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:30:41 AM »
I was hoping to get advice on a good camera and micro lens for work. I need a camera that can take sharp clear pictures and up close.I will need  to take  photos of smaller items about 1'' square in detail.
Keeping in mind it would be nice to take off one lens and put on another and go in the field.

The camera and lens I was looking at was the Nikon D90 with the micro-Nikkor 55mm F/2.8 lens combo. On a stand for keeping it stable.

Any input would be greatly  appreciated.  This is all new to me and I am in no means a photo buff.
 Thank you

I prefer the 90-105 mm macros because they double as great medium telephotos and portrait lenses.  Howeve, if all you will use it for is macro then just be sure it will get 1:1.  ALWAYS use a tripod or similar and good light.

AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR
105mm f/2.8G IF-ED
This medium telephoto Micro lens is ideal for extreme close-up and portrait work with greater working distances and AF from infinity to life-size (1:1).

OR

AF Micro-NIKKOR
60mm f/2.8D
Nikon‘s most compact Micro lens for extreme close-up and general photography with continuous focusing from infinity to life-size (1:1).

If all you are going to use it for is Macro, I'd just by like a D3000 or 3100.  If you are going to use for more than than, why buy the older D90?  I'd go for the D7000 with kit lens and then you can either get a Macro lens or buy some extension tubes for your existing lens.  Of course many of the new point and shoots will do pretty good macro also.

like the idea of the kit then getting the macro. Question is, is the ''AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D 1/1 ", is this the newer version of the  "nikkor 55mm f/2.8 1:2 "? or what lens would be the lens to get for the closest and sharpest shots with?

If you are going to go Nikon, and want the choice to use new or old lens' then the D7000 kit would be the best way to go.  Like I said in my last, why buy old when new is on the market.  The Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 is a great choice for macro.  The 55mm f/2.8 is not an AF lens and it is only 1:2 meaning it only focuses to 1/2 life size.  The 60mm Nikkor is a 1:1 ration meaning life size.  Another option is the Tamron SP 60mm F/2 Macro, it also is a 1:1 lens.

here are links to both:  Nikon: http://www.adorama.com/NK6028AFDU.html

Hope this helps.
