Broken Antler on Mount
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:36:23 AM »
So last night some gentlemen thought it would be funny to steal my room mates mount off our wall and hide it. Well they dropped it and broke one of the tines into 4 pieces. I found the pieces and can piece it together again but before i get to Gluing, I wanted some opinions on what kinda glue or if i should have my friend send this to a taxidermist. Thanks Guys.
I hunt for peace of mind.

The gentlemen were apprehended and given a thorough scolding. Not sure if we could get them to pay for anything from a taxidermist so i'm really looking for a glue answer more so. Or if a taxidermist wants to throw up a price quote that would be good as well.

take a piece of the tine to your local hardware store and find a wood stain that matches it so you can blend it in after it is epoxied back together.use a good 2 part epoxy on it and you can also use small dowels to pin it back together.you might be slightly shocked at what it can cost to repair broken antlers.I just went through this last week on one that fell off the wall.

usually alot more than just gluing it. A lot of times the glue will not hold over the years. If you can post some pictures would help a lot. If the tine is broken in pieces and not pieces broken off the tine. I would suggest you drilling into the pieces inserting small rods and then use an apoxie sculpt or something in that nature to hold it back together and smooth it out.

I dont know where you are at, I will be back in my shop around the 10th of Mar if you need a hand with it. As long as you put up pictures of the gentleman taped to the flagpole (Kidding) if you need help let me know.
