Mountain Beaver Distress - Sounds Like?
« on: February 23, 2011, 09:59:50 AM »
I read a study done in the 80's regarding Western WA Bobcat stomach content and it reported that Mountain Beaver (large rodent looking critters) remains were found in 42% of the Bobcat sampled, next closest was Snowshoe Hare at 26%.

Has any one heard a Mountain Beaver distress sound?

What commercially produced caller sound does it sound closest to?

I know this question has a lot of room for funnies but a couple honest answers would be great.

When I was a kid living in port Angeles, our German Shephard used to kill them all the time..
Sounded about the same as when she killed the rabbits :dunno:

Any one know why they are called boomers?  :dunno: Always wondered, but have never been able to track anything down on it.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

I have trapped mountain beavers for years. They seem to be fairly nocturnal. I haven't ever heard a sound out of one but the bobcat sure do love em. When checking traps it's not irregular to see a few bobcat!
