Hi and a question
«
on:
February 23, 2011, 09:08:13 PM »
Hi, I am new here and new to hunting. I am looking at packs and was wondering if anyone used military packs like the army molle or marine ilbe rucksack. I figure those guys have to carry lots of weight and blend in with their surroundings all while being a quiet as possible. What do you think, bad idea or good? For any that have used either which do you prefer? Thanks

I still use my trusty large ruck sack from when I was in. No frame, just a wood dowel in the top to hook the shoulder straps to. Its comfy and I can carry 50lbs in it all day.

I have been retired from the Army for 4 years now and I still have my molle and my parge Alice ruck. I do not go hunting without them.

Like many things, if if works for you I'd run with it. I use a more modern ooohh look at me and my zippers pack for general hunting but have some military type rucksack for hauling larger quantities of gear.

Sure do! I do have two "civilian packs" but still prefer my military issue.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

First welcome
You have to do what it comfortable for you and what ever saves a buck is the way I look at it. If you have the pack and like it use it.

MOLLE rucks are pretty great. Lots of room and detacheable pouches. Believe it or not, i use my kids old school book bags/backpacks cause of the color. If you ever got seperated from your pack (sometimes it happens), it's much easier to see a red or blue one than a multi cam or realtree print one. If your looking at elk hunting you need to look into getting a packframe for meat hauling. After several years hunting, my eq. that i normally take with me has gotten less and less. Stick with your basics and the load is much more manageable that hauling half your house all over hells half acre. Check out sportsmansguide.com or some of the local pawn shops around the I-5 corridor for molle or alice packs and frames. Good luck and welcome to the hunting life
