Question for TC fans???
« on: March 21, 2011, 10:52:33 AM »
I bought a rifle on gun broker and am confused as to what model it is.  The description says it's a TC Black Diamond Explorer.  It also says that on the barrel?  My question is, is it a north west Explorer or does TC make black diamond Explorer that is not the north west edition???  I know this is confusing but any help would be great!

Hmmm I've never heard of a black diamond 'explorer', so I can definitely see where it might be confusing

The two models are almost identical as far as I know, one of the only differences being the stock used. Not sure if the barrels have the same twist rate

The NW Explorer was just marketed as the solution to the NW ML regs problem, I believe the BD came out prior to that, yet filled that same type of void.

Wish I wasn't at work so I could check some, d*mn IT filters

There's a NW Explorer for sale in the Classifieds if you want to compare pics. I'm no expert but I've never heard of a Black Diamond Explorer.

That is a very diffrent gun :dunno: It looks like a plain black diamond. But the other stamping has me confussed. Also it is not explorer that is stamped on the barrel. From the pic I can see expre, I would guess express not explorer. It is not the north west explorer, its some kind of variation of the black diamond. That I have not seen before. The north west has a twist rate of 1:48 and the black diamond 1:28. which is better for most of the bullets used today.

After doing a little looking to distract my mind. It is indeed a black diamond express. The seller just put the wrong title on it.

Seems like a pretty good buy. I didn't like that it was dirty in the pic. It might have been sitting dirty for a little bit. You will want to make sure you clean it very well each time you shoot it.

Do they clean up after they have been sitting for awhile?  Never had to deal with it because I always clean mine right after using it.

Yeah, they should clean up fine. As long as it does not have rust and pitting. You should be o.k Just scrub it down. Looks like someone who had it did not know much about muzzleloaders.

I agree hope the bore is not in the same condition as the breech. Looks like it may have the 209 ignition set up in it now you will want to check that and change it to #11 or musket.
Smoke em when ya see em!

Yes it is 209 ignition so I need to order the musket nipple.  I was hoping to turn back around and sell the scope so I might be able to recoup some of the cost for the gun.  Thanks for all your guys help.
