Finding a place to shoot

Nothing is more frustrating right now than the lack of access to areas that used to be open to people that wanted no more than a safe place to shoot.  Having grown up where a five minute drive in virtually any direction could have you in timber company land or state controlled property, I hate having only one or two options.  Often, those are full of off roaders that have the same frustration.

I understand that big timber can't leave land open to tweekers cooking meth and idiots throwing their garbage in the woods.  Still, I can't believe it when I actually have to plan when and where I am going to try my luck and hopefully find an open gate.

I feel your pain.  I live on Whidbey and here there is only a few ranges.  The one that is close to me wants 100 bucks initial charge, plus 160 per year.  We can't just go shoot in the woods either, because rifles are not legal on whidbey for hunting.  Luckily I have a buddy with a giant sand pit on his property.  But its still a pain because I can't just go shooting when I want, I need to make sure hes okay with it.

Which club wants that much?

Both North Whidbey and Central Whidbey Sportsman's associations dues are $60 annually....

Holmes harbor rod and gun club wants 100 initial and 160 annual dues.  I am 18 so I can't even join.

The other ranges would indeed be great and 60$ is completely reasonable, but I live in clinton...

Luckily ill be leaving to go to school at CWU in ellensburg here shortly so I will have access to tons of shooting opportunities!!

I hear ya, I had an encounter during archery elk season last year in the manastash area.  I was setup and calling, trying to get a couple of cows in.  Some drunk guys come screeming down one of the service roads, stop and start shooting a stump.  I was directly in front of them about 400 yards away.  Needless to say, I took off at a quick pace to get out of there.  Safe firearm use needs to be practiced more often. i
